[edit] Name

Since she is more popularly known as Eugene, shouldn't the article title reflect that? No one calls her by her given name, and articles like Cher seem to follow the rules (at least, what I think the rules are). (And yes, this is cut-and-pasted from Bada's talk page, but all of S.E.S.'s solo pages have this problem.)SKS2K6 23:25, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Eugene is not the lead lady or she was never in Memories of Bali - Chette

[edit] Current info

Who knows what she's doing now? Is "I Really Really Like You" still airing on MBC? SKS2K6 23:25, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Name change

Can I PLEASE move this to Eugene (singer)? This is by far the most popular English term for her; even her album cover has "Eugene" on it. SKS2K6 07:46, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

ANYBODY? :P SKS2K6 07:43, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
She's also an actor. I don't mind moving it and yeah, her English name is much more common. --Nissi Kim 21:43, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm thinking Eugene (entertainer)...so if no one has any objections.... SKS2K6 03:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Why not Eugene (celebrity) --Nissi Kim 01:26, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Because standard naming procedures that "entertainer" be used for those who work in different entertainment areas. See Madonna (entertainer) or Usher (entertainer). SKS2K6 05:48, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
If there isn't any objections within the next week, lets change it then. --Nissi Kim 00:57, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] additional info about her..

there is more information about eugene's earlier life and some additional info. it's on her official website: http://eugene.pfull.com/ it's in korean and i can read it, but i'm still new to editing so if someone could organize and nicely put up her info...

her family consists of her parents, a younger sister, and herself. she graduated elementary school in korea. graduated from Agueda Johnston Middle School. moved to Korea after becoming a member of SES after graduating from John F. Kennedy High School. there's some conflict of info about her education since the media and many websites say that she graduated from JFK High School, but that she also graduated from Korea Kent Foreign High School. here's the website about the "extra" high school from which she graduated: http://epg.epg.co.kr/star/profile/index.asp?actor_id=1592

she has done some acting and has so far been in 3 korean dramas: "Wonderful Life" MBC, Mar 2005-Apr 2005. http://www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/wonderfullife/index.html "Save the Last Dance for Me" SBS, Oct 2004-Jan 2005. http://tv.sbs.co.kr/last/ "Really Like You" MBC, Apr 2006-Aug 2006. http://www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/reallylikeu/ --128.252.249.85 09:31, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

The dramas are listed at the bottom. And by the way, she does speak Chamorro, according to this link, so I will be adding it back to the article. Thanks for the early life info; I'll (or someone will) try to integrate it into the head of the article. SKS2K6 09:33, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
i guess i can't argue with that link. i've met her personally and she can't speak it, but for the sake of citing sources, personal communication with the person doesn't count. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.252.249.85 (talk) 09:47, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Eugene810303Cover.jpg

Nuvola apps important.svg

Image:Eugene810303Cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Recent move to "Eugene (actor)"

This article was recently renamed from "Eugene (entertainer)" to "Eugene (actor)', with an edit summary "She is both a singer and an actor but is more known to people as an actor. Entertainer tag sounds a little disparaging." I don't think that's tenable. She's far better known as a singer than an actor. She's best known as a member of the singing group S.E.S and has released two solo albums. I think the claim that she's better known as an actor is specious, and disagree that there is anything "disparaging" in labeling an entertainer as an entertainer. The article should be moved back to Eugene (entertainer). What is the consensus? TJRC (talk) 17:56, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

She is better known as a singer in Korea but in the most part of Asia and internationally she is known for her tv shows. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.107.63.20 (talk) 18:10, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Hehe...I was going to write this big long thing against the move to "actor", but your argument states what I wanted to say in concise terms. But anyway, here's what I want to add:
  1. Other articles are under the "(entertainer)" descriptor, including Madonna (entertainer), Usher (entertainer), Monica (entertainer)...there are a few others as well. Anyway, most of these people are known for one thing more than the other (in this case, singing); however, because they have also acted and done other things as well, "entertainer" is more accurate, and this is the established convention on Wikipedia.
  2. To be honest, it shouldn't matter what a person is currently known for, as the article should not be biased towards more recent events (see WP:RECENT). In this case, Eugene may be acting right now, and be known as an actor right now, but overall, what is she known for the most? Being the E in S.E.S. (as this article from SportsSeoul states (in Korean)). She's still considered a country "yojeong" (literally fairy/spirit, although I believe the meaning is closer to goddess).
  3. Eugene has stated recently that she wants to come back as a singer eventually. Does that mean that the article should be continually moved to relfect her current role in the Korean entertainment industry?
  4. As TJRC said, the claim that actor > singer is really debatable. In terms of current work, I agree with that distinction, but in terms of notability...eh. None of her acting works have been as successful as her songs (either with S.E.S. or solo). I know that that's my opinion, but it shows the debatable nature of this issue.
So in short, I strongly support moving it back to Eugene (entertainer), and I was going to do it but felt that a discussion was necessary first, because I've been reverted back by the original mover...so yeah. I understand that throughout Asia, she may be more known as an actress, but in Korea (and I would say North America as well, to a degree) she is more known as a singer. That's why "Entertainer" is the best descriptor to be used for the article, as it gives equal weight to both and does not choose "sides". SKS (talk) 18:19, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Moved. And even if for some crazy reason it shouldn't have been moved, the article can't stay under the name "Eugene (actor)" because she, a woman, is not an actor. Eugeniu Bmsg 04:10, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
