Date of birth[edit]

I've found 3 sources that give a specific date, but they differ:

  • 7 November 1811: [1]
  • This one opts for discretion, merely saying "November 1811".

Given that he died on the 17th April, there's the possibility that "17 November" is a transposition. The source that gives 7 November is well written and sourced. The other sources are basically raw data. I'm going to believe in 7 November and put that into the article. -- JackofOz (talk) 00:21, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was changed to 17 November on 29 January 2010 by User:Vong52, whose only edits were here. An editor who seems quite knowledgeable has now changed it on the German Wikipedia, de:Eugene von Guerard, from 17 November to 19 November with an explicit reference to a German publication, Die Düsseldorfer Malerschule und ihre internationale Ausstrahlung 1819–1918, edited by Bettina Baumgärtel. On the other hand, http://www.daao.org.au/bio/eugene-von-guerard/ and http://www.printsandprintmaking.gov.au/artists/3887/ are quite clear on 17 November. Frankly, if only the Baumgärtel work gives 19 November, I think we should stick to the 17th. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:18, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:View of Geelong 1856 painting.jpg[edit]

The image Image:View of Geelong 1856 painting.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.
