Perfect crossover[edit]

Fabolous is 28 according to his mugshot..the proof is next to his birthyear. 03:30, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Somebody deleted like half of the page, if somebody could fix this that would be great.

Copyright material can't be put back in. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:52, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Swagger jacker[edit]

Shouldn't it be noted that within the hip hop community, Fabolous along with Lloyd Banks is often criticised for using the 1-2 punchlines that Jadakiss made famous??--Donnie from the mean streets of Boston, KY 10:13, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

If you can source it, sure. Seraphimblade 06:55, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Fabulous shot AND under arrest?[edit]

All the articles cited mention this but don't explain why. If four people jumped him and he was the one that got shot, then why is he under arrest? —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 10:45, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Because you can't carry an unlicensed gun in this city.
In fact, even transporting a licensed gun anywhere in New York City is forbiden to most of the population, if I'm not mistaken. Ruthfulbarbarity
Thanks for the info. None of the articles I read explained that. =) —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 21:03, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome.
The information about whether he, his assailants or both were carrying firearms was left a bit murky in most of the initial media reports. Ruthfulbarbarity 01:04, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Telfair was robbed a few hours before this happened. ESPN is reporting that he is under investigation for possibly being involved in the shooting.

Suggested cleanup[edit]

I would like to suggest that the singles section is a little long, and may work better if it were changed to "Most popular singles" and listed a few of the highest-charted singles. Also, the trivia section may not be entirely necessary. Thoughts? Seraphimblade 07:07, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

As there seem to be no objections, I've cleaned up the singles list to include singles charted in the top-25. Seraphimblade 01:43, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: What the heck have you done. Man you messed up.

Would you care to elaborate on your objection? Seraphimblade 06:17, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Plz put it back the way it was
Once again, I would like to ask the reason for your objection? I'm not sure if you're the same anon editor who commented before or not but it would be quite helpful to know why you object. Seraphimblade 03:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Because we all want to keep up with fabolous tracts. What if someone wants to download fabolous tracts. They have to look somewhere. Are you happy, i have my objection down boy.

Not sure if it's actually in WP:NOT, but I think you'd find agreement that Wikipedia is not a download guide... Seraphimblade 04:57, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Yo This dude is right why are you change this page. I want see al of fabolous's latest tracts. Who are u to change my boys loso page, u sound like a jerk and a gig.
Thanks for your feedback. You may wish to read WP:CIVIL. Thanks. Seraphimblade 23:22, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Double refrence[edit]

. . .released a second single through Elektra Records entitled, "Gotta Be a Thug", under the name Fabolous.
I dropped that last clause, pointless, and it linked to the same article. Daedalus275 00:10, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Encyclopedic tone[edit]

I would like to suggest that, other then in the intro (to establish that Jackson is the rapper known as Fabolous) we should probably change mentions to his real name (such as "Jackson"). Use of a nickname/pen name really doesn't seem good use of formal tone to me, what are anyone else's thoughts? Seraphimblade 22:35, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I agree.
Although people might refer to him by that stage-name I think most news reports use his legal name. Ruthfulbarbarity 02:50, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

No objections so far, so done. Seraphimblade 04:41, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Revert of investigation section[edit]

The source cited (ESPN) states that Telfair is (not "is rumored to be") under investigation and states nothing about his cell phone records. If new information has come to light that he is not or may not be under investigation, and/or that he provided the records, please ensure that a source is cited before adding the information. Seraphimblade 20:23, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Failed GA nomination[edit]

I hate to say it, as there are not enough high-quality hip hop articles on Wikipedia, but I must fail this article as a Good Article candidate. This could turn into an excellent article, and the groundwork for that has already been lain. However, there are a few issues in reference to What is a Good Article?:

  • Criteria 1(c): The article has slight WP:MOS problems, such as album titles not being italicized. This could be easily fixed, and is in no way the defining reason for GA failure.
  • 2(b): The page contains one {{citation needed}} tag and one spot which uses external "jumps" as opposed to inline citations. Again, this can be solved, and is not the main factor.
  • 3(a): This is the big one. A GA does not have to be as comprehensive as a Featured Article, but the Fabolous article is not even close to comprehensive. Aside from where he grew up, there is no talk of his childhood whatsoever. The "Biography" section immediately jumps from where he lived to with whom he has collaborated. We're given only the barest of minimums in regards to details of Fabolous's life. There is also no description of his style- how does he rap? what do his songs sound like? does he use a lot of samples? do his concerts include live instruments? His albums go without description; the page simply lists an album's name, release date, and chart position, but no background information at all. In my opinion, no article lacking so much info could be a GA.

Much of this article is quite good: The references are generally reliable and well-cited, the article is laid out well, it's completely NPOV and free of original research, and the table of albums is perfect (though I may or may not include his mixtapes in the table). However, there are a few problems (and one huge problem) keeping the article from being a GA. Best of luck! -- Kicking222 03:32, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

"""""You should put a list of fabolous songs. This would be nice.""""""""""""""""""""

Mitchell & Ness[edit]

There is nothing about his contract with Mitchell & Ness. I think this is important to demonstrate Fab's international popularity as well as the commercialization of hip-hop. Does anyone have more information about the business between the two? Lincoln187 06:56, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

This doesn't specify a contract, but it certainly does mention the connection, perhaps a good starting point as a source for this? Seraphimblade 07:31, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello please could you fix the singles problem it si going to the bottom of the page thanx

The pics beside each album are gone. Plz put them back, some people cant edit yet they try.[edit]

The singles are messed up[edit]

Please sort it out i can't edit it back to normal. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Monkeylouis1 (talkcontribs) 18:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC).

Fixed, only problem was a - instead of a } was used at the end of the table. Thanks for setting it up though! Seraphimblade 19:34, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair use image removal[edit]

I don't believe that "fair use images" should have been removed-the fact that they are used in album articles are not a reason that they may not be used here, and they were covered by fair-use rationales. Might the person who removed them state h(is|er) specific objections to the rationale here? Seraphimblade 23:47, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I believe they are redundant here (since they are in the respective album articles), and it's Wikipedia policy (wich is deliberately more strict than US law seeing as we are a free content project) to use unfree material as sparingly as possible. The fair use rationales in question (witch should be on the image page itself by the way, not the talk pages) does not in fact offer any kind of rationale for why the images are needed or contribute significantly to this article, and personaly I find album covers in discographies to be little more than eye candy unless there is some actual commentary on the covers themselves. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Music's "quality standards" also says cover images should not be used in discography lists. --Sherool (talk) 00:07, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
I see one minor mention of that in a subpage of WikiProject music, none whatsoever on the main. It's only policy (which Wikiprojects don't make or override, whatever they may get to thinking sometimes!) that fair use images should be used only where an appropriate rationale can be provided, and where an appropriate free image could not serve the same purpose. I don't believe any free use image could illustrate the CD listing nearly so adequately as the CD cover itself, and it is certainly covered by an appropriate rationale. (You are correct that I placed the rationales in the wrong places, I'll get those fixed if you have no further objections to re-adding the images?) Seraphimblade 03:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
That one subpage is the standard of quality that project have developed, I asume they did not just come up with that out of thin air. I'm not saying any free licensed image could replace an album cover I'm saying using the album covers does not add anyting significant to this article. They do not identify the subject of the article (though they do on theyr respective articles), and they are not used to ilustrate any relevant points in the text. In other words I think they serve a purely decorative purpose, wich is not reason enough to include them per the Wikipedia:Fair use criteria (see point #8). Saying that an image is of low resolution and unlikely to harm the copyright holder may be enough to satisfy the legal requiements of fair use (though I believe there are 4 factors that must be adressed), but as mentioned Wikipedia place a number of restrictions on the inclution of fair use material beyond the purey legal ones. We are supposed to be a primarily free-licensed ensyclopedia, invoking "fair use" only when there is no other way to add significant value to an article. --Sherool (talk) 12:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't their be some mention of his beef with mase and other members of g-unit

I finally made this page sexy[edit]

I put some pic in the albums, added songs in the song list, added the rich yung part and beef wit mase and extended the bio and shootin. If anythin should be added plz write in the improvement part by jah. Ha.

Name vs. nickname[edit]

When writing about a person, we should use that person's real name ("Jackson"), not a stage name or nickname. On the other hand, when referring to him as a musician, it may be appropriate to use the band/stage name. (For example, "Jackson grew up in...", but "The Fabolous album..."). Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 22:31, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I've also performed some additional cleanup. Please keep in mind the neutral point of view and a general formal tone of writing when editing articles. Thanks! Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 22:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Right. I agree with what you're saying, at least in parts! When referring to him as a musician Fabolous' first popular single, "Can't Deny It", was released in late summer 2001 it just fits better. I can't word it any clearer. He has has released the record as Fab, not Mr Jackson! In other parts In his early ages, Jackson grew up in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. and Consequently, Jackson was arrested (along with three other men) after being treated, it could be argued his real name is more suitable. Although you can appreciate I didn't change these parts earlier.

But please don't make things up about the WP:MOS! Cloudz679 01:48, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Well it used to say that! Damn people that edit wikis! :) With the albums and that, I think the stage name would probably work, since in that case the reference is primarily to him as a musician. Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 02:02, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Australia connection??[edit]

I notice that in the Breathe video he sports an Australia jacket throughout. Any clues as to why this is? Is he in any way affiliated with Australia? GillsMan 22:25, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

He can wear wat ever he wants

His ethnicity[edit]

Fabolous usually doesn't openly discuss his personal life like romantic relationships or family history not to mention that the only source of his birthdate is the arrest record. So.. Is there any way to confirm his ethnicity? mirageinred 20:27, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

The industry tends to make individuals be somethign they are not. Fabolous is not dominican. It is a public relations ploy to gain a hispanic following. He is african american. His name is john david jackson. I am a friend of him. I know this for a fact. 04:11, 23 August 2007 (UTC) He himself said it in an interview at def jam that his dad —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 21:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I deleted all the stuff about African American, Dominican American, Hispanic American, Dominican, Hispanic, and African, first of all because I don't think he's all those things, secondly because I don't really think it's relevant. It now just says American rapper and musician. -AN —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 18:13, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

he is a member of the black mafia[edit]

it should be added that he is crip related go to crips and look for famous people who are in gangs

The article Fabolous discography should really be merged into his main page, rather than having one of its own. Crassic(talk) 16:46, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

I would support merging if the discography was small, but I think it deserves its own article, especially with the long guest appearances. Spellcast 16:51, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
It should be on seperate page. West Coast Ryda 19:53, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Should Rihanna, Ne-Yo, and T-Pain really be under Associated Acts? He didn't sign any of them, he just worked with them on From Nothin' To Somethin'. DiverseMentality (talk) 03:13, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
