Cast[edit]

I think the cast list and storylines should be retained. I'm quite happy to tidy them up if needs be, but as Ireland's only English language soap opera, wiki was a much better call for information on Fair City than IMDB.

Is their a particular reason why we must give a comprehensive list of cast. Can the IMDB or something similar off site provide the equivalent? Wikipedia is not a list of indiscriminate information. Djegan 10:49, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A list of every cast member in a soap opera looks overboard to me, I would expect only the notable ones to be listed. As none of these appear to have any details bar the actor/character name, I'm removing them for the moment. I did consider moving them to the talk page, but as the list is available from imdb, I thought this unnecessary. Feel free to add them back in one at a time, once there is some notable extra info to go with it. If there is no notable info to add, please don't add it back in, as Wikipedia is not a list of indiscriminate information, as above. Regards, MartinRe 18:58, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The cast list has again grown to horrifying proportions, with a synopsis of the entire story, often repeated, appearing under each character's name. This is excessive, and very poorly written. Magichands 23:36, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The list is indeed excessive - there's even a template (see below) listing the characters, with several of these characters already having their own articles. I posted a query about this on Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests‎, but no feedback - what I suggested was that the approach apparently taken as regards characters from The Archers be used - that is one page - in that case List of characters in The Archers be created, with basic details on each character. Intriguingly, redirects haven't been set up, so typing in a characters namw won't jump to that page automatically. CultureDrone (talk) 11:15, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with CultureDrone about the idea of a page with the main details of the cast. I'd also suggest a part with either a heading on the main page or of major storylines in Fair City year by year. Alanmryan100 (talk) 22:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism Section[edit]

This section should be deleted. It appears to be a mish-mash of dozens of different opinions ; just an endless gripe list. Wiki at its worst. Complete waffle. This article needs to be reduced to A4 size. Ruthlessly. (Sarah777 02:19, 20 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Agreed, the first and second paragraphs especially. It's point of view rather than fact. And since when is linking to a user review on IMDB valid as a citation!? Jeeze. Actually, over a year later and still nothing has been done. 86.46.41.175 (talk) 22:31, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the old criticism section was a bit over the top but there needs to be some from a good source on here. The show is considered by a lot of Irish people to be a complete joke (poorly written and hopeless acting). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.95.65 (talk) 20:54, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think Fair City has improved over the years (the Lucy Mallon storyline is one example of well-written characterization and impressive acting). By contrast, Coronation Street is now considered by a lot of people to be so bad, it's funny. Tails3333 (talk) 16:51, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions[edit]

Here are some suggestions about Fair City - which I want to get feedback on and will then work on if other people agree.

Replacing the "Synopsis" section with a "History" section and a "Major Storylines" section. The Major Storylines could go year by year from 1989 on to 2008, with some of the biggest stories mentioned. This could also possibly be a seperate page if it ends up long enough. As for "History" it needs to be more detailed with when key things happened, like when the show went from 2 episodes to 3 and when the summer break was stopped.

Also a section on the production side of things could be done, with the bit on the sets thats there now included, as well as bits on the theme etc.

A "Criticism/Controversy" section could include the stars in the past who've come out giving out about the poor pay and working conditions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alanmryan100 (talkcontribs) 23:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i think that your ideas make good sense, and would help with the editing process and wikifying process for clarity and style. Howth575 (talk) 22:50, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
how about we use the same structure as the bbc eastenders article to maintain a similar style across the genre? seems like a good idea, and a good framework to work in...Howth575 (talk) 22:56, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've just made quite a few changes to the page. Firstly I tried to find information for the ?? areas in the information box, but couldn't find them so I removed any information we didn't have - just to make the page look better. When we do get it, it'll be easy to add in, especially with the template here. I hope that's okay. Also I've added to the setting section and deleted anything that was not referenced or not related to the characters section. I thought that part of the article was far too long, and contained a lot more criticism than details on the characters. I've removed some of the sections that you added to make the article similiar to the EE page, just because I didn't feel they were needed. For example Filming can easily go into the Production section. I added to the Social Realism part of the article as well and removed the Suburban Buildings part of the article as I did not feel it was relevant. It'd be great if you could give me some feedback on what you think of the changes, as they are very much just a start on the article. Alanmryan100 (talk) 15:42, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • i did a lot of writing on this article recently and I think it's well-written now. There may need to be a few more references for unsourced info, though. Tails3333 (talk) 16:51, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I did some more writing on this article and I think it's a great source of information now. I added a lot of references for unsourced info. I think this article is just as good as articles on other soap operas now.Tails3333 (talk) 16:14, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
        • I cleaned up this article again and added some good references, which I got from the Inside Fair City book and Fair City DVD. Tails3333 (talk) 16:11, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
            • This article needs a major ref cleanup. Other than that, it looks fine to me. Tails3333 (talk) 19:40, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List of Fair City characters[edit]

Can someone with knowledge about this show—but who is not obsessed with it—clean up the list of Fair City characters? There is too much reference to the plot and to other characters in the description of characters. There is a lot of unnecessary repetition. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 14:05, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lock[edit]

Can we get a lock on the main page please. The page keeps getting vandalised and it's starting to annoy me now.Cutekitten05 (talk) 11:41, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can take the article to WP:RPP. But looking at the history of the page i think an admin will decline it because there has not been enough recent vandalism. Well, blatant vandalism that is because your most recent edit in removing the text was not blatant vandalism. Monster Under Your Bed (talk) 11:45, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Holland[edit]

According to the references Tony Holland was only brought into help with this Soap Opera. He did not create the series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IrishTV (talkcontribs) 22:30, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Holland was brought in to give the soap it's structure and story lines for the first season. Margaret Gleeson was the show's first Executive Producer. With the help of producers Paul Cusack and David McKenna and script editor Tony Holland, Gleeson began putting in place the many components needed to make the series. Fair City DVD[edit]

I have a bit of info about the Fair City DVD. It was produced by Coco Television and distributed by RMG Entertainment. Tails3333 (talk) 22:14, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
