Untitled[edit]

Hi,
I can't find anything on the net, and especially not on the Five College's website, anything that suggests it's a consortium of "the most selective and prestigious national liberal arts colleges in the U.S. state of Ohio." This seems to be a POV statement, unless one can show that those five colleges are indeed the five most selective and most prestigious colleges in Ohio.
I would suggest that something more along the lines of "The Five Colleges of Ohio is a consortium of five liberal arts colleges in the state of Ohio that is made up of The College of Wooster, Denison University..." would be considered more NPOV.

RickK, I'd say that the word "selective" is fair in this context, as a citation for the claim has been made in the text (average PR selectivity rating of 95). Either way, it doesn't seem make sense to take out "selective" from the first sentence, yet leave "among the most selective" lower down. Asbestos | Talk. 17:29, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

plagiarism[edit]

I've deleted this:

During the 1800s, in their evangelistic campaign to build a Christian community across the U.S. from the Atlantic to the Pacific, Protestant churches of the 19th century used the denominational college as an intellectual stronghold. By the Civil War era, the churches had founded some 40 colleges in Ohio alone, to ensure for the state a Christian core and to train the ministers who plodded after the frontiersmen across the plains. Empty treasuries and denominational rivalry had closed all but 20 of these Ohio colleges by the 1950s. Of the survivors, five colleges -- Denison University, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, and The College of Wooster[1] -- were often grouped together because of their high academic standing.

Because it's a direct plagiarism of this: http://content.time.com/time/subscriber/article/0,33009,891383-1,00.html
