[edit] Early world flag type proposal

Four Freedoms Flag or United Nations Honour Flag ca 1943-1948.svg

One early quasi-world-flag type proposal was the "Four Freedoms Flag" or "United Nations Honor Flag" of 1943. It wasn't proposed as a flag of the planet Earth as an astronomical body (since people didn't generally think in such terms in those days, outside of Duck Dodgers cartoons), but it was intended to be a kind of world freedom flag... [edit] Earth photo on blue field flag

  • Doesn't this flag bear striking similarity to the Japanese flag? 68.198.113.241 (talk) 21:45, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm confused how the "Blue Marble" design could have been used for a 1969 flag for the first Earth Day, when it was not taken until 1972/3 as described in another section on the Apollo 17 mission. Vdub144 (talk) 02:36, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Vdub144

If you mean the most famous one (basically of the continent of Africa plus Saudi Arabia), then you're right, but I'm pretty sure that there were other earth photos before that (though maybe less aesthetically perfect). Apollo 8 was the first manned mission that had the ability to take such photos (see File:As08-16-2593.jpg)... AnonMoos (talk) 03:08, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Futurama

Not sure why "Old Freebie" can't be included as a somewhat well-known joke... AnonMoos (talk) 01:44, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
