Uses / Applications[edit]

A few suggestions:

In the introductory paragraph, it reads, "Applications include chemistry/biochemistry, medicine, environmental monitoring." In addition to lacking an "and" at the end of the sentence, it might be important to note that fluorometry is heavily used by cell biologists and biophysicists.

The "Uses" section also seems a bit sparse. In addition to the example of milk pasteurization, one might include a fluorometer's importance in FRET, natural amino fluorescence, and fluorophores/probes.--DRH91 (talk) 20:41, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of phase fluorometer[edit]

I am reading the book molecular fluorescence by Valeur and Berberan-Santos, the first chapter describes the history of breakthrough discoveries and inventions. Some of the discoveries relate to fluorescence vs phosphorescence (with importance of measuring decay times), fluorescence vs opalescence or Mie Scattering (with importance of measuring polarization effects), and absorption and emission spectra (with importance of prisms and other spectrometric tools).

One of the bigger breakthroughs it mentions is the phase fluorometer by Gaviola in 1926 (for measuring decay times). So I wanted to learn more and habitually tried Wikipedia, but this article is heavily biased to fluorescence spectroscopy, and defines broad classes of measurement instruments within fluorescence spectroscopy. It should include more classes of measurement instrumentation (e.g. lifetimes: fluoroscope, phase fluorometer; and so on). Via DuckDuckGo I found a thefreedictionary.com article (a source I normally avoid like the plague) but it did contain the basic explanation of phase fluorometry. They copied it directly from "The Great Soviet Encyclopedia" though:

I suggest this article be improved by having the description contain fluorometric parameters of interest (emission and absorption spectra, lifetimes, polarization etc) and then sections for different fluorometers and the parameters they measure.
