Untitled[edit]

GTA is a three letter abbrieviation that can stand for a number of things:

Grand Theft Auto, which can mean: Motor vehicle theft?? So grand theft AUTO can mean motor vehicle theft? dont get it.. --Viking-nl 14:53, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eh? Grand theft auto means like stealing a car, it is a term used long before the videogame "borrowed" it. JayKeaton (talk) 23:24, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We do not need ALL the GTA games here.[edit]

This is a disambiguation page for articles with the title of "GTA" ("Grand Theft Auto"). This means that only articles with the explicit title of Grand Theft Auto should be here. In the same way Half-life (disambiguation) only includes the franchise and first game, this only needs to include:

Including the entire franchise is over-excessive and unnecessary as readers can find this list in the franchise article, which is the first thing listed. Lazz_R 12:59, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 28 December 2018[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus that Grand Theft Auto is the primary topic of the search term "GTA", and thus no consensus to move the page to the proposed title at this time. Dekimasuよ! 02:01, 5 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GTAGTA (disambiguation) – GTA should redirect to Grand Theft Auto. Search results would suggest that it is primary, I find it just as common for sources to refer to Grand Theft Auto as GTA [1] [2] [3] [4] (just as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is commonly shortened to Skyrim by sources). The other entries on this disambiguation page do not appear to be strong contenders, other than the long lasting car models, and at a push, the DJ duo. Lazz_R 20:37, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom. Lordtobi () 20:40, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose blatant primary grab by video game fans. This is an encyclopedia, and there are simply too many topics listed for this acronym to push one over the others to the detriment of readers and editors. -- Netoholic @ 22:20, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Just to clarify that I myself am not necessarily a "video game fan" despite what my recent edits may suggest, I was brought to the disambiguation page through the music duo. Lazz_R 21:42, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The video game series is the primary topic. Calidum 17:21, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose Grand Theft Auto is already at Grand Theft Auto and doesn't need to grab readers by a PRIMARYREDIRECT from the multiple other readers who input GTA not looking for Grand Theft Auto. massively fails to pass criteria 2 for a primary topic according to the "GTA is" test in books... Truly massively fails. Perhaps video games editors will please click on the GTA is" test before supporting the above and please consider the needs of non video-game readers. GTA is a common auto marque. gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding. etc. But mainly there is no primary meaning for a very common three letter acronym. Q. Is it even the case that "GTA" is an authorized abbreviation for Grand Theft Auto. Can't see it on any of the official products on Amazon.com In ictu oculi (talk) 09:32, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In ictu oculi, yes it is. It is littered all over the publisher's news site and has been since 1999. The second game even has this abbreviation on the cover. Also, I don't know why you would take to Amazon to look for such results (though searching for GTA on Amazon does only show Grand Theft Auto games and related media/peripherals). Lordtobi () 09:41, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Simply because Amazon is a good filter of real product and not. I realize that GTA is is used by fans and peripherals. But there is no actual official GTA game is there? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:55, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In ictu oculi, no, it's the short form for the title, but no publisher would ever list their products under a short form on storefronts, even if that short form is most commonly used to refer to said product. Lordtobi () 09:59, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I remain slightly unconvinced that this is an abbreviation known outside the fanbase, but in any case Grand Theft Auto is not in books even close to making a Primary Topic grab over all other uses of GTA combined, so the strong oppose is not based on "GTA" not being the official title.
