Manifesto to the Romanian Army[edit]

Apparently, Gala Galaction wrote a manifesto that was later signed by Conon Arămescu Donici, for which he was later accused of betrayal.

I found these quotes about the issue in two books on Google Books:

[...] Este vorba de manifestul către armată, girat cu numele mitropolitului Conon-Arămescu Donici. Proiectul manifestului fusese redactat de către Gala Galaction, la cererea ministrului de resort, Virgil Arion.

Conceput iniţial ca un manifest al ierarhilor către populaţia Moldovei, documentul a fost ulterior modificat şi retuşat subversiv, de persoane necunoscute lui Galaction, pentru a fi aruncat de către aviatorii germani în tranşeele româneşti. Gala Galaction analizează pe larg conjunctura care a determinat, în vara anului 1917, redactarea acelui manifest în Jumal, Ediţie îngrijită, prefaţă şi note de Teodor Vârgolici, Bucureşti, Editura Minerva, 1977, voi. II, p. 34-42.

După primul război mondial, Gala Galaction a fost acuzat din nou, mai virulent, de filogermanism, de pactizare cu armatele ocupante. Capetele de acuzare constau în faptul că, în timpul ocupaţiei germane, a rămas în Bucureşti şi că el ar fi autorul manifestului demobilizator aruncat în spatele frontului românesc din Moldova.

Consemnările din Jurnal (voi. II, p. 36 — 42), a căror probitate etică nu poate fi pusă la îndoială, sunt însă pe deplin edificatoare, demonstrează că Gala Galaction a fost infinit depărtat de orice colaboraţionism cu ocupanţii germani. Deşi a rămas în Bucureşti în timpul ocupaţiei, datorită în primul rînd greutăţilor [...]
