The grammar in this article struck me as poor, and it is more narrative than informative. Meaningless or unnecessary phrases include:

  • "Gilmore's trial was held from October 5 to October 7, 1976 which he was quickly convicted of the murder..." - perhaps during which?
  • "Gilmore was shot by a firing squad on January 17, 1977 after angrily telling his lawyers to drop the appeals they had filed in defiance of his wishes. On the cold winter morning on January 17, 1977 ..." - date is repeated, on is repeated, and cold winter morning seems subjective.

A lot of the things in this article are in contradiction to The Executioner's Song - Gilmore's last words in the novel "Let's do this" seem more likely than "Aim small miss small" - Also, I believe Mailer says there were only 4 riflemen and specifically mentions that they were not prison guards. Furthermore, we have talk of a song by the Adverts but no mention of Nicole Baker and their suicide pact? Lynchings?[edit]

No, the article says that there were 5 shooters, 4 of which were supposed to have live rounds and 1 with a blank. But when the body was examined, 5 entry wounds were allegedly found. Maybe there were 5 live rounds, but maybe, depending on the caliber weapon used, ricochet off the chair or another hard obstacle (even bones) could be possible. Triviacruft => Reactions[edit]

We all know trivia sections are discouraged, and in this particular instance, it seems really out of place, more so than normal. Any objections to just deleting the whole thing? Better yet, move some of it to a "reactions" section. StaticElectric (talk) 08:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ha ha! Yes, it would be a long gestation period for sure. However, the allegations of an illegitimate child fathered by Houdini referred to Gary Gilmore's FATHER being that child, not Gary (who was born in 1940). At least 60% of this article is uncited[edit]

A huge portion of this article has been tagged as uncited for over 9 months. If assertions are not cited then they are subject to deletion. I would not like to see that happen but assertions must be cited. If you have an interest, please review the article correct the citations as you can. Military Service?[edit]

At the time of his execution I recall reading in at least one news periodical that Gilmore was a "former [U.S.] Marine", but further details lacked. (The U.S. still had conscription when he came of age.) Worth investigating this claim, those with access to better sources than I.Cloptonson (talk) 22:26, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The basic way criminals are dealt with in popular culture is to humanize the criminal while ignoring the crime victim. Gary Gilmore (criminal) → Gary Gilmore – Per Wikipedia:Primary topic. Clearly this Gary Gilmore is the primary topic. His infamous story and case is an important part of United States history. No other Gary Gilmore on the current disambiguation article comes even close to his level of notability. I think we should rename this article to Gary Gilmore and rename the current Gary Gilmore article to Gary Gilmore (disambiguation).
