Adios, Gaspar Saladino[edit]

I am sorry to learn of Gaspar's death. He was a nice man and a superb craftsperson. In the article about him, it says that a citation is needed to source this sentence: "During that decade [the 1990s], Saladino also designed the logos of some titles published by Eclipse Comics and in the 1990s he designed product logos for the Lucky Mojo Curio Company,[citation needed] a metaphysical supply manufactory founded by Catherine Yronwode, the former editor-in-chief of Eclipse Comics." I can affirm the truth of both statements -- i hired him to design logos for Eclipse and later for my metaphysical supply company because i had known him for decades through the comic book industry.

Since logos are not signed and the old invoices and pay stubs are long gone after 20 - 30 years, there is no "proof" that he did the logos beyond the statements of those who worked with him. Those who know his art style will recognize them at once. I have removed the "citation needed" notice because the 2008 Bryan Stroud interview with Gaspar describes him working for Eclipse, and i myself can verify that he did work for Eclipse while i was there and for my own Lucky Mojo Curio Co.

The most popular Lucky Mojo product for which he created the logo is "Fiery Wall of Protection" -- a line of oils, candles, incense, sachet powders, and bath crystals: http://www.luckymojo.com/fierywall.html

The next most popular Lucky Mojo product with a logo by him is the "Raccoon Love Bone" (an actual raccoon baculum): http://www.herb-magic.com/raccoon-penis-bone.html

I hope that my stating this as personal knowledge is sufficiently reliable a source. -- catherine yronwode, not logged in. 75.101.104.17 (talk) 05:35, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bryan Stroud's 2008 interview summary (sourced repeatedly in the bio) mentions some of the logos Gaspar did. ("He created the logo for both Swamp Thing and Metal Men among others. During the conversation I mentioned the way that Metal Men #22, the "Attack of the Sizzler!" issue really leaped out and grabbed you. Gaspar confirmed that covers like the Sizzler did their job: They got attention and sales at the newsstand. He pulled his copy out when we were discussing it. He also did logos for the Vigilante and Eclipse.") Someone deleted the entire logo section as being not sourced. I restored it, added some sources, and asked for discussion here. --cat yronwode, not logged in 75.101.104.17 (talk) 04:39, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
