interesting[edit]

Just to let you know, Gecekondu generally refers to high rise, low cost and low quality apartment buildings that were built in little time with no regard for safety. Thats because land is quite expensive and there isnt much room available in the cities. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Teccen (talkcontribs) on 14 April 2006.

question[edit]

Why exactly is Robert Neuwirth even mentioned let alone quoted in this article? The quote "half the residents of Istanbul - perhaps six million people - dwell in gecekondu homes" is absurdly hilarious for obvious reasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.109.190 (talk) 00:42, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are over one billion squatters worldwide and the phenomenon is under-represented on Wikipedia. Join Wikipedia:WikiProject_Squatting to help write articles about squatting in every country, or drop a message on the talkpage about something else you'd like to see covered. This is just one of many ways to counter systemic bias on Wikipedia! Mujinga (talk) 19:16, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
