Absolute last fully drawn story?[edit]

According to his personal site store, Cap 601 is his last full story. http://www.genecolan.com/GeneStore/OriginalArt/Cap601Auction.html --208.255.118.242 (talk) 21:19, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's unclear from that unsigned page on Colan's official site who the person is making that claim (with Gene and his wife both being referred to in the third person), so we can't say "Colan said on his website that..." For anyone else to make the claim would be WP:CRYSTAL. In any event, that story is the last thing mentioned in the article, so the article is correct as it stands.-- Tenebrae (talk) 23:28, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Falcon[edit]

In mainstream comics, as opposed to underground comics or obscure privately published and distributed comics, the Falcon is the earliest example of an African-American superhero. Go by the cover-date of Captain America #117 (cover-date Sept. 1969). Unless an editor can demonstrate an earlier example, then please do not change the phrase to "one of the earliest." It is up to each editor to justify his or her edit. If you cannot give an earlier example, then you cannot justify that change. --Tenebrae (talk) 02:44, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to raw data in terms of the date, here is a quote from Marvel Senior Vice President of Publishing Tom Brevoort: “The Falcon was the very first African-America super hero, as opposed to The Black Panther, who preceded him, but wasn't American." Source: Brothers, David. "A Marvel Black History Lesson Pt. 1", Marvel.com, February 18, 2011. --Tenebrae (talk) 03:15, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Inking Colan[edit]

Would it be appropriate to add notes on how Colan's penciled art was notoriously difficult to ink effectively? I know the Secrets in the Shadows book comments extensively on this, and I've just finished reading an interview with Joe Rubinstein in Comics Interview where he comments on why an inker needed to be especially proficient to ink a Gene Colan job. Are there any other reliable sources to back this up?--NukeofEarl (talk) 17:13, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Gene Colan/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

The article on Gene Colan contained a pretty good summary of his career. However, the cover of Dr. Strange #180 presented as an example of his work is actually a paste-up job created in the production department. The small figure of Dr. Strange is drawn by Colan and taken from an earlier issue, but the large figure of Eternity is the work of Steve Ditko from an old issue of Strange Tales. This should really be replaced by a pure example of Colan's work from another comic. I do not currently have a flatbed scanner or I would do it myself.
