George Prowse V.C. was a Welshman born in 133, High Street, (formerly 8, Brynsion Terrace),Gilfach Goch, Glamorgan. A blue plaque was unveiled on the house on 31 October, 2006 that reads: "George Prowse, V.C., D.C.M. (R.N.V.R.) was born here August 29, 1886.
