Suggested alterations[edit]

The following line from the trader section seems a little unclear, I'm unsure where the quotation ends (the closing quotation marks seem to be missing?), and where the quote is coming from: He was "one of the first to exploit the kauri gum industry, he exported gum to the United States and timber and flax to Sydney. Flag this article for inaccuracies[edit]

There are a number of errors in this article, for example Hongi Hika and Waikato were not the first Maori individuals to visit England - that was Te Mahanga (Moehanga). Other inaccuracies are around tone/unquestioningly accepting historic European sources for their reading of contemporary Maori events. For example the Treaty of Waitangi bringing in a period of peace is questionable, as is the claim that the Missionary Williams persuaded the chiefs to stop fighting - the missionaries held very little sway.
