Origins[edit]

Which came first, this or Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore? I'm pretty sure it was the latter, in which case the Corrs were really doing an instrumental version of this, or possibly an earlier tune upon which the lyrics were later added. Gleanntain Ghlas' Ghaoith Dobhair is a relatively new song as far as I know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.168.114.154 (talk) 10:24, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's my impression as well, though I don't have a source. I'll add some fact tags for now. --Allen (talk) 00:24, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I edited to reflect these comments... eventually it would probably be better to have one page for the tune and all the songs associated with it. --Allen (talk) 02:21, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is some useful discussion on mudcat. Note that the earliest versions mentioned (1819, 1844) seem to be a completely different song though. Another song that uses this tune is ga:Uaisle Acla. —☸ Moilleadóir 01:24, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Song was written by Proinsias Ó Maonaigh. There's a short summary on the origins of this song in this video 'Gleanntáin Ghlas' Ghaoth Dobhair' - The Story behind the Song. - --IamGed7 (talk) 16:18, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
