What is 'fixtures'[edit]

I've been googling to find what "fixtures" are in the context of hurling. Got to this page, but it didn't help. :) It does use the term in this sentence for example: "Committee which organises fixtures for competitions above provincial level".

Where I live, I've never heard the word "fixtures" used in sports terminology. What does it mean? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.10.137.205 (talk) 02:51, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Very simple: "fixtures" are matches that have been arranged but not yet played. A fixtures committee organises the timetable for a championship or league, i.e. who plays whom, the date, venue and time, and possibly the referee. Brocach (talk) 13:23, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
