Mario game?

[edit]

Why is it listed on several Mario Games lists? I cannot find any information showing it features Mario in any way. Salvidrim (talk) 16:10, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it was a misunderstanding? Isn't there a Gameboy game simply titled "Golf" that actually did have Mario in it? Sergecross73 msg me 17:42, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, yes, and that's a clear fact from the boxart itself. This one was probably included mistakenly after someone confused the two. Salvidrim! 17:45, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Czar review discussion

[edit]
  • ✓I didn't verify sources or check for reliability
  • ✓Could use more summary of development and release in lead
  • How is Stroke best or recommended for beginners? If designed that way, say so
    • And by whom? Perhaps "The game suggests Stroke mode for new players."
  • Consider better distributing the citations, even if they're duplicated, in case someone adds more information in-between citations later
    • My major concern is that cites are lumped at the end instead of showing what information specifically came from what source (especially considering the degree to which the information is offline)
  • I would remove all of the details about the swing meter as I don't find it particularly useful. I originally removed it, but I think it should be up to you. I see how it could be a core gameplay mechanic, but I also think it's at an unnecessary level of detail—at most, a few sentences would suffice. An alternative: "The latter two are timed meters with a degree of chance." "With the latter two, players stop an indicator on a timed meter."
  • Avoid those semicolons if you can
  • I recommend using simple verbs like "put" and "let" instead of "allow", etc., especially for gameplay sections
  • ✓ clarify "use a 3D processor" for laymen?
  • I didn't ce the rest of the piece due to time, but let me know if there's something you'd like me to look at
collapsed
  • ✓ "players can choose both power and at which point to hit the ball": clarify latter point
  • ✓ Do players choose power, or is it one of those meters where you have to get lucky?
  • ✓ clarify tag added
  • ✓ "the high and low points": the arc of the ball, or the good/bad parts? Specify
  • ✓ "players compete with opponents": who? Computer opponents? Friends taking turns?
  • Removed dev section parts that were mostly irrelevant to the article and not focused on Golf's dev
  • "to achieve the game's design": ? removed
  • "The designers used a 3D": VB or Golf designers? I assumed the former.
  • Explain POLYSIS if it's worth including
  • "the developer's experience with golf games": do they have experience or not? Explain. Was the reception mixed because they didn't uphold the standard or positive because they're associated with good things? Explain the prestige thing as it pertains to the reviews too
  • "its staff gave it a 4.0, 3.2, 3.8, and 3.8": means nothing to readers, removed—can you summarize as 4/5 or 4/10 whatever it is, or explain that they praised it?
  • Lead doesn't currently reflect the article and vice versa

Comments

  • I'm not really loving the immediacy of the footnote for the alt-name of the game (particularly as it smashes into the italic text), would it be too harmful to put it at the end of the sentence?
    • I'm not really married to it either, though in my experience I tend to see it immediately after the name.
  • "within months of the Virtual Boy console's launch" this would be more meaningful to most of us if we knew when that actually was?
    • Nixed.
  • "It was developed and published..." the last "it" was the console.
    • Addressed.
  • " T&E Soft " is piped to a redirect back to itself.
    • Addressed.
  • "Gameplay screenshot." fragment, no need for the period.
    • Fixed caption.
  • "their last shots.[2][1]" numerical order.
    • Fixed.
  • "and published by T&E Soft in Japan and Nintendo in North America " say when.
    • Fixed.
  • " within months of the " can we be more specific?
    • Nixed.
  • "positive reception; the positive reception" repetitive.
    • Fixed.
  • "Allgame" -> "AllGame". And be consistent with whether you italicise it or not.
    • Fixed.
  • "year).[13][14][11][15] " numerical order.
    • Fixed.
  • What is ref 7?
    • Removed ref; it was originally just citing the game.
  • Don't overlink All(g/G)ame.
    • Fixed.

Short and sweet article, nothing major omitted, just the few concerns above so I'm putting it on hold. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 10:48, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Abryn, no problem, I'll try to take another look tonight with a view to promoting it. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 16:50, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I made a few tweaks as you'd perhaps missed or misunderstood a couple of my comments. I'm content that it's just about there now. It's short and could always use expanding, but right now it's sufficient for me to promote. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 18:54, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
