Actually, in the Force Five version Orion's earth name is Johnny Valconian as the professor acted as his father to further the charade. According to the Force Five version Antares was populated with the galaxy's most intelligent scientific minds, their intelligence was forced into subjugation and they were the one's who created Grandizer. Sorry. but Antares/Fleed did NOT create Grandizer. All the accounts of how OrionQuest/Duke Fleed came to earth mention the fact that he did steal the robot from his Vegan captors. Also, an important part of the plot in episode 49 The Last Survivor is that Princess Maria Grace Fleed's "grandfather" (actually her preceptor) gets killed in an accident he could not avoid because he was frantic after seeing Grandizer, which he recognized as the machine that spearheaded the attack on Antares/Fleed... Uh...the story I remember is that in Force Five the bad guys took over Orion's planet and used its science to create the robot, THEN he stole it from them. Maybe that's different in the Japanese version, which I've never seen, but I seem to recall hearing it's similar. P.S. a few weeks ago there was this fair in my town with a merry-go-round that had cars that were undoubtedly based on Grendizer in the saucer. It was weird. About the Fanboy's obsession with the plot summary[edit]

The article about the anime show Grendizer has been edited (in a amateurish and selfish way) by some "fanboy" who does not appreciate previous attempts of cleaning the article to a standard quality and value, and apparently does not understand that the purpose of this encyclopedia is to provide the most accurate information about the original subject, regardless of its origin and language.

For example, the last edit made by this person consisted in editing plot information and trying to justify his actions by writing that, quote "For this English Wikipedia we shall use the English version of the story[...]".

This person has to consider that the focus of a plot summary based on Force Five Grandizer, a Japanese anime series that was edited and modified from the original for foreign marketing (in this case in the U.S.) cannot be taken as the ultimate and definitive source of information, but rather as an alternate source, or in another case, an source of the "modified version". For an example of this reasoning, the person should refer to the Macross/Robotech anime articles, which provides an ample example of how to handle information about an original Japanese anime show (Macross), and its American-edited counterpart (Robotech). Yet another example of this is the Voltron anime article, which submits information from both American and Japanese versions of the show, without making excuses about languages and/or using only information from one version or another.

I must make myself clear to say that the plot information provided by this person, mohd, is welcome and highly appreciated, it just has to be managed and presented in a proper manner.

I suggest to this person that he or she should be more open and conscious about the true intent of an encyclopedia, not limiting him/herself by closed-minded views of languages and sources. papo1975 18:31, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Grendizer's mixed-up history[edit]

The confusion generated by having different perspectives on the story is understandable. It doesn't help that there have also been different takes on its roots and developments - though not to the extent of the various elseworlds and additions Go Nagai developed around the Devilman and Mazinger franchises. Mazinkaiser was born as a video game character first, the ultimate - quite godlike, actually - incarnation of the legendary super robot, then it was added into the storyline. In his manga version, Gosaku Ota even linked planet Fleed's origins to the lost continent of Mu!

The forthcoming release of the official Grendizer DVD set will probably shed further light on the issue; the estabilished tradition in Italy had King Vega being the actual thief, and Maria, Duke Fleed's sister, was thus led to believe that the Vegans were operating the robot.

Plot & History[edit]

It seems to me that the History section should be incorporated into the Plot section to save space and prevent redundancies. Also, the robot information should probably be moved to its own article. Kouban 21:49, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NOTE!! Hello there fans. If you do not mind I am ading some information to the Grendizer wiki page. I wish to aim to make far more organized. Also I would like to add more accurate information, since this is an older show. What do you think. I have already added to the info boxes. Check them out and let me know what you think.

Additions, references et alia[edit]

Hmm... I wonder whether we should include other sources such as the mangas: while Nagai's was closer to the animated version, Gosaku Ota's take on Grendizer is remarkably different in story and character development, and features a much less pleasant ending.

Update: the series is being re-released in Italy, with remastered video, a new dub (but there's the "historical" one as well) and better translations.

This might also help us in clearing up any lingering doubt about the robot's origin; whether King Vega had it built by his techies, they used existing Fleed-borne blueprints and technology, or it was already "sitting there" and Duke simply recovered it - in Ota's work, this is actually a plot point with extremely dire consequences.

Grendizer's design is quite unique in comparison to its opponents (solar-powered instead of using Vegatron for fuel, support vehicle, gren alloy for armor, anti-theft lock -- no, really!), but this could really fly either way with option B and C. I'll have to check the remastered edition for clues.

About Marcos: wasn't the man afraid of Voltes V, as well?

Kouban, in fact we are stressing the same point: I concur that we should be sticking to the original. Yet, I think the adaptations' somewhat... convoluted past history would also benefit from a few annotations.
Force Five version aside, the early dubs didn't just compensate for obfuscated dialogue or sketchy translations: they sometimes built creatively on it. And this is why I would like to compare both versions of the scripts in regard to the original (the early dub more or less confirms that Duke "repossessed" the robot in the nick of time).

The "Greatest" Anime[edit]

The entry describes the show as the greatest anime in France in 1977 and the greatest anime in Italy in 1978. "Greatest" is a bad ajective to use, in my opinion, beacause it doesn't realy say anything factual. I assume that in this context, "greatest" means, "most popular", but I didn't want to change this as I might be wrong. Am I? SPELLING: Spacer, Spaizer, and Spazer[edit]

The first paragraph reads "... Grendizer is a giant monster robot that interfaces with Spacer (Spaizer), a flying saucer that enables the robot to fly."

The last one, "... Duke and company go out to intercept them in Grendizer and the newly designed space combat Spazers...."

Can anyone clarify about the different spellings?
