Referneces / Sources[edit]

"This article does not cite any references or sources..."

Bull's homepage is the best source of any references, why is it not accepted as reference? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.125.132.176 (talk) 21:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Language or content 'dispute'?[edit]

I was just wondering whether the following passage, recently removed from the article's last paragraph,

"In accordance with the open source operating system trends emanating during the late 1990s, all products are available with a Linux option (more specifically the Mandrake Linux distro)."

was taken as seriously lacking in readability or was simply bad English, or whether the reason for its removal lay in the department of redundant/unnecessary content? (i.e., "just about each and every major computer vendor have now jumped on the Linux bandwagon, so why bother mentioning it"). At the time of writing I thought it quite suitable. :-) --Wernher 01:31, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The issue is a combination of style and content. "In accordance with...trends" is vague to the point of vacuity, and "emanating" is unidiomatic to the point of unintelligibility. So it is unclear what is being said here. Does it mean "Given the popularity of Linux in the 1990s, it is unsurprising that..." or "As with every other vendor..."? In either case, I am not sure what it adds to the factual statement. Let the facts speak for themselves when possible. --Macrakis 02:01, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Your interpretation of the cited passage is correct, as indicated by the 'anticipated criticism' given in double quotes in my comment above. Keep in mind, though, that not all readers can be expected to know about Linux' general advance in the market during the past decade---which was my rationale for including the passage. --Wernher 10:44, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Mainframe/Mini Linux support[edit]

By the way, what is the state of the various mainframe and mini computer lines? Do they support Linux on DPS-8? If not, it is not "all products". --Macrakis 02:01, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

As for the mainframe and minicomputer Linux support, I wasn't the one behind that statement (being no Bull expert, unfortunately), and neither have I done any serious investigations of the matter, so it should really be looked into by 'someone'. --Wernher 10:44, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
DPS 7000 and DPS 8000 do just support GCOS 7 and GCOS 8 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.125.132.176 (talk) 23:04, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

The current product succeeding the DPS 8 (i.e running GCOS 8 and its applications) is the Itanium based Novascale 9000 line. Partitions can run Linux, and partitions running GCOS 8 are actually running under Linux and emulating the proprietary DPS 8 (and successor) instruction set. --Threegoal, 8 Sept 2005

Fair use rationale for Image:Logo groupe bull.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Image:Logo groupe bull.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Not sure why this bot is saying that there is no fair use rationale, {{Logo fur}} is there. Anyway, I've completed the rationale a bit more, it should really be fine now! Pieleric (talk) 13:27, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Founder?[edit]

Fredrik Rosing Bull is listed as the founder. However the date of founding is given as 1931, and he died in 1925. Jim (talk) 02:57, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
