Carabiner

Sorry to bring this up again, but I think I have an idea for GH Carabiner. I think the first sentence in its paragraph is sufficient to state that the game exists (we do have two sources for it anyhow), and on top of that we can simply generalize the remainder of the paragraph if it's needed. Splitting up the template?

Given how many GH titles appear to be coming in the next year...I'm thinking it may be helpful to start splitting "expansions" into "Spinoffs" and "Band-centric" or something like that. Then 80's and Smash Hits (and the inevitable Smash Hit sequels) will then have their own section while band titles (Aerosmith, Metallica, Van Halen, etc) will get their own as well. -- TRTX ^{T / C} 16:11, 24 April 2009 (UTC) great idea, i second this. Oblique reference to series expansion

I am referring to the part where it says that Activision expects to triple the number of GH games by 2010. But what does that mean? How many games will be out by that time? Does it mean tripling the # of games since Activision took over or what? We either need to explain that a little more or remove it altogether. It makes no sense as it is. 'Milking' complaint about GHSH

That section sounds kinda like it was written by a Rock Band fanboy. The last statment is attributed to generally 'reviewers' despite only being found at IGN. That's the only source supporting that statement. By that section, I mean the entire last paragraph of the 'Oversaturation' subsection of Legal and Practical Issues. First paragraph: "The highest score on the game ever is held by a 4 year old monkey named Bobby, Bobby has 12 fingers." Is this true? Not afaik, and either way it's not cited. Suggestion: Table of controllers

Hi, i've tested some GH on XBox360:

• GH II Accepts Normal Controller
• GH Metallica accepts "Lips microphone", but not normal controller
• GH World tour doesn't accept nor "lips microphone", nor "normal controller"

Does anyone else thinks a good idea to include a table of accepted controllers?

Guitar Hero: Beatles redirect -- any reason to keep?

Someone familiar with the subject may wish to nominate Guitar Hero: Beatles and Guitar Hero: Beetles for deletion over at WP:RFD. The most this article ever seems to have contained on the subject is here where it mentions some 2008 reports of interest from some industry executives in bringing out a Beatles themed release, and even that is gone now. Unless there is more than that behind the redirects, they could arguable be considered confusing by continuing to redirect here after all mention has been removed, and implicitly imply that there might have been such a release that simply hasn't been written about yet. -- ToE^T 13:37, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

I would likely agree, except that right now , there is a video floating around youtube that spoofs the concept of "Guitar Hero: The Beatles". It has gained barely enough attention from gaming sites that it may be somewhat more notable. I believe that you are referring to The Beatles: Rock Band. I see that The Beatles: Rock Band#Promotion does devote one sentence to the industry rumors of Activision vying for use of the songs in Guitar Hero. I'm trying to find out where the game's designers got the inspiration for the name "Guitar Hero". Does anyone know? Consolidated DLC Page

I was thinking someone could make a consolidated DLC page, similar to what the Rock Band DLC page is like, which would include all available forward-compatible songs from Guitar Hero: World Tour onward, and possibly include the exported setlists (i.e. Guitar Hero World Tour/Smash Hits imports) in that page as well. Does this seem reasonable or do-able? I am noting this here since I want to try to incorporate it elsewhere. However, those that are trying to add Jack McCauley's name, to the lead more importantly, as the creator of the first guitar controller, this article doesn't say that; it suggests he was around since them, but that's it. I don't disagree that it might be useful to include his name, but we can't use this article to suggest what is being added. Uhh...Guitar Hero what now?!

So, I was searching for this month's DLC for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, when I noticed a link for some game called Guitar Hero: The Beginning; I clicked it, and it brought me to a stub of an article about what someone believes is the next main GH game. It's a very believeable article, and looks like it came straight from a GH expert -- but there are no external links or citations to speak of. I was feeling a little doubtful, and so I came here in order to verify it, and while there's a little blurb about said game in the future games section, there are no external links or citations to be found. As well, a Google search turned up nothing besides the link to the Guitar Hero: The Beginning article, leading me to believe that it may be someone's clever attempt at vandalism...

...so, in short, I'm not sure that GH: The Beginning even exists...like that fake Mario Super Hockey fiasco a few months back, this may be just someone's pathetic attempt at making their GH dreams come true...

Saturation: Possible addition.

One issue that I have seen raised by many pro gamers and game bloggers is the method that Guitar Hero additional songs / albums are listed in Xbox Live and other online platform downloads. Basically if you list 'new releases' for Xbox games, you will get a bit listing as one would expect but several hundred of those are Guitar Hero: <insert band or song here>. Of all the games newly released, well over 50% of entries are merely add on songs for Guitar Hero, even though they're not a new game, or addition, or anything of the sort. Change of tense

I'm talking about the Planned Games section. Much of it is still written in the future or present tense; I did some correcting just now but I don't know what to do with the rest of this. I know basic grammar, of course, but I'm hesitant to just go crazy with the changes lest an outcry should occur here on the talk page. So I'm going to paste it here, bold what i think must be fixed, and explain what I would do with it if it were just me. So here we go:

The PlayStation 2 will no longer be supported in future games of the series from 2010 onwards according to CEO Mike Griffith. It is expected that the 2010 entry for Guitar Hero will be the final entry developed by Neversoft, based on claims that Neversoft will be letting go of its Guitar Hero division, with Vicarious Visions likely poised to take over future development. Further industry rumors point at the closure of RedOctane Studios and Underground Development (the development studio for Guitar Hero: Van Halen) as further results from the scaling-back; Activision will move the controller hardware development within their own division to continue to support the series, with RedOctane founders Kai and Charles Huang remaining with Activision. A week prior to these announcements, the Guitar Hero division CEO at Activision, Dan Rosensweig, left the company, leading to some speculation if Rosensweig's departure influenced these changes. Activision and RedOctane have trademarked the titles "Guitar Villain", "Drum Villain", "Keyboard Hero" and "Sing Hero". RedOctane originally trademarked the titles "Drum Hero" and "Band Hero", but the work performed towards the Drum Hero title was eventually folded into the gameplay for Guitar Hero World Tour, and Band Hero has become its own game. However, as of October 2009, Activision has reapplied for a Drum Hero trademark, suggesting a drum-specific game may be created in the future.

• The whole "expected" biz is sort of touchy because the series didn't get very far afterward. So should we just say that that information had been announced, or should we just say that was the way it was without saying, so and so announced it at a certain date?
• Speaking of which, can't we just say "No more games in the series were released on the PlayStation 2 after 2010" or something to that effect?
• Can't we just say "GH6 was the last to be developed by Neversoft"?
• Should we say that VV took over future development or that they just did a few games (at the most) after taking over? They didn't get very far after the change took effect before the series got canceled.
• I think I read on the Rock Band article that Activision would take part in making new instrument controllers to support Rock Band, so with a little bit of rewording I think the part about integrating the controller division withi itself can stay.
• Is it necessary to point out that the Drum Hero trademark was applied for again? Or that it still suggests that a drum game may be released in the future? I know the series probably isn't gone forever, but still...

Miscellaneous: I think we should change "have done" and the like to "had done".

I'm also considering editing the "Oversaturation" section for the same reason. I would argue that that section should be in the past tense because no more games are being released. Of course, there might be a revival in the future but as of right now, the complaints are sort of passé. Plus, I'm pretty sure that Activision would pay more attention to those criticisms and keep them in mind if and when they revive the series, so they probably would lose their relevance over time. Okay, seriously...

To whomever keeps adding info that GH will return: Please cite something. I'm not opposed to seeing the "hiatus" statement appearing in the article, as I have seen an article on the Internet for myself to confirm it (although I don't remember where), but this article already does not say GH was killed off completely. Further, people who keep adding it without a source keep openly admitting it's a 'rumor' but WP cannot accept rumors, nevermind unsourced ones. See WP:OR, WP:CRYSTAL, and WP:RS. Again, I'm fine, and I'm sure everyone else would be fine, if the "hiatus" statement was included in the article, but please do not say, "The next GH game will come out in 2012" or whatever. Besides, Activision has stated that regardless of the future plans the series has been indefinitely frozen for now. My edits are intended to show that the series is on hold, and that previously-announced projects were not finished, but it does not say that there are no possibilities for the future. </rant> Tubularbells1993 (talk) 12:38, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

So as you may have noticed, I kept my word and worked on the rest of the article. There are just a few things that I noticed, so I wanted to bring them up here and see what you guys think. Here we go again:

"DJ Hero 3D was announced at Nintendo's E3 press conference on June 15, 2010, the new Nintendo 3DS handheld console was also revealed. At the conference Nintendo listed a number of publishers and franchises coming to the 3DS, one of whom was Activision with DJ Hero 3D, a new installment in the DJ Hero series and the first handheld DJ Hero title."

• I notice there were no references attached to this, plus the forthcoming DJ Hero title is, well, just not forthcoming. I removed this while I was doing what I like to call a "mega-edit" (an edit of the whole article, not just one section in it) but pasted it here in the event that someone had something to say about it.

"Guitar Hero III Mobile was released for mobile phones in 2007 and 2008, and was developed by MachineWorks Northwest LLC. The base version of the game includes 15 songs from both Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero III, and has released a three-song add-on pack every month since January 2008."

• What? Are they still doing that, that whole DLC thing? If not, we need to change it to past tense and cap it off with a time when they stopped doing that.

"Activision has also stated that they are considering a monthly subscription service to deliver downloadable content to user for future games."

• Did this ever happen? Did this project ever materialize? If it didn't, we need to note that. I haven't touched this as I wasn't sure what to do.

"An addictive videogame provides the illusion of musical mastery for even the least gifted:."

• What's up with the colon and period at the end of that sentence? Which one is it meant to be here?

Talking about Guitar Hero on lots of song articles

In many song articles, it is quoted that these songs appear in Guitar Hero. However, I don't believe it's a good way to neutrality: on one hand, it allows the reader to know GH features this song, but on the other, GH gets lots of free ads. No, I totally agree. It's one thing if it's a particularly pivotal moment in an artist's history, but too many plugs for GH (or for that matter any game) is overkill. We can't mention EVERY single incidence of a song in popular culture unless it is really important for whatever reason. Be bold and eliminate references you don't feel should belong, although I would recommend leaving signatures on talk pages in the future. Tubularbells1993 (talk) 23:30, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Early on, I had an idea of creating a category for songs featured in GH, but sought advice before creating it, and it was agreed that this isn't appropriate; I think that applies here. If third-party sources comment on a specific song being in the game (which I do see for smaller, indie bands that get noticed because of GH or Rock Band exposure), that's fine, but if it's part of the soundtrack and no specific distinction is made for it, then mention of it on the song's article is not really appropriate. --MASEM (t) 14:13, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
