Hofmann's nationality[edit]

I changed "German" to "German-born American" because that's what authoritative sources say. For example, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art calls Hans Hofmann "American, born Germany" [1]. MdArtLover 16:10, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Teaching and writing" mistake[edit]

Mercedes Matter did not study with Hans Hofmann in Munich. She studied with him in New York between 1932 and 1935. (http://www.pbs.org/hanshofmann/mercedes_matter_001.html) I've never edited an article on Wikipedia and have not read the editing guidelines, so I wanted to post this here first before making a change. Please do not change dates if they are referenced.[edit]

The dates are well referenced please do not change them. In 1963 The Museum of Modern Art gave a full-scale retrospective, organized by William Seitz.[1]The exhibition: Hans Hofmann and his students: 1963-1964.[2] is a separate event. Two separate issues[edit]

the dates of the exhibition are now incorrect. Actually we are talking about two separate issues - you are quite right that those two publications are dated respectively 1963 and 1963-1964. I was addressing the dates of the actual exhibitions which are 1963-1965. If I inadvertantly changed your publication date references, then I was in error, however I was changing the exhibition dates which correctly are 1963-1965...Modernist (talk) 03:23, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the dates of the exhibitions are in error and should read 1963-1965, as the schedule indicates and proves [3] and the section heading is also in error - incorrectly describing a subheading as in bold lettering while it is how we indicate a sub-heading with three === rather than two == of these and it is naturally bold, two of these == indicate a separate subject heading...Modernist (talk) 03:29, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You added a material which is retrieved from :"Hans Hofmann - Represented by PACE/TOMASI GALLERY." The reference does not differentiate between the two shows. The William C.Sietz show was presented in the MOMA while the Hans Hofmann and his students was only circulated. It is important not to mix up references. Actually both exhibitions and their schedules are listed at the reference I provided. Read the reference and you will see both shows. William Seitz and MoMA contributed to both exhibitions, for the retrospective which traveled in the USA and abroad from 1963 -1965 Seitz wrote and edited the catalog, and for Hofmann and his students Seitz organized the exhibition for MoMA and it traveled extensively in the USA from 1963-1965...Modernist (talk) 03:56, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I own the :"Check list" of the exhibition: "Hans Hofmann and his students". It was provided for me by MOMA. The check list is identical with the references provided by worldcat.org. You provided one reference retrieved from :"Pace/Tomasi Hofmann Bio]retrieved April 2, 2010" The reference is not in synchrony with the references provided by worldcat.org or with my :"check list" provided by MOMA. It is critical to keep the same references together for clarity. Please do not move your edit contribution in the middle of the same references. If you have further proof that the two exhibitions were the same then please provide the references in the article.(Salmon1 (talk) 04:21, 3 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]
What are you talking about? There were 2 separate shows. A student show that traveled in the US from 1963 - 1965 and the referenced paragraph I added to the article shows which museums the show traveled to and the dates of each show. The final student show being - Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery at the University of Miami (Coral Gables, Florida, now Lowe Art Museum, 17 March-7 April 1965).

The other show - the Hofmann retrospective traveled to museums in the USA and abroad. The paragraph that I added to the article provides the museums it traveled to and the dates of the shows. The final show being - Stadtisches Kunsthaus (Bielefeld, 12 September-10 October 1965)

Both shows and the schedules of both shows are included in the reference I provided. And both shows traveled from 1963 until 1965...Modernist (talk) 04:32, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hans Hofmann and his students traveling exhibition[edit]

There is possibly something not quite right with the list associated with this traveling exhibition and the description above it. There are 51 students listed but only 48 students were included in the show according to MoMA - "The traveling exhibition...included six works by Hofmann and one work by each of forty-eight of his students." (see Hans Hofmann and his Students 1963–65). Unfortunately I don't have a list. Perhaps someone else does. Sean.hoyland - talk 10:57, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
