Not famous. moink 21:06, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)

  • Famous. Anthony DiPierro 21:07, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete Redirect to KPPP - if all developers are famous we're in for a lot of new pages - Texture 21:13, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • Harri Porten is one of the more famous developers. Anthony DiPierro 21:17, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
      • Beyond creating KPPP name something famous he did. If you can, add it to the article and place a note here that the article was updated. - Texture 21:19, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
        • Do your own research. VfD is not cleanup. Anthony DiPierro 21:25, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
          • By this response, I gather that he is not famous. - Texture 21:29, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
            • According to Linux Today his claim to fame was adding JavaScript support in Konqueror. Anthony DiPierro 21:36, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
              • According to the article, he implemented JavaScript in some other product, called "Lynx Konqueror", which is not the default browser of KDE. DropDeadGorgias (talk) 22:30, Mar 5, 2004 (UTC)
            • Lynx and Konqueror are two different browsers. Anthony DiPierro 03:36, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
              • That's not fame, that's a job. Not that tough a one either. Tell me he was the first to add Java to any linux platform and you might have fame. - Texture 21:41, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
            • "Claim to Fame" were not my words. And java has nothing to do with javascript. Anthony DiPierro 21:46, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • That would be like redirecting Marc Andreesen to Netscape. Completely unacceptable. Anthony DiPierro 21:27, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Del. --Wik 21:39, Mar 5, 2004 (UTC)
  • info: Google search returns 3270 links for "Harri Porten" and Yahoo search returns 1160. Some of them: [1], [2], [3], [4]. Optim·.· 21:55, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Developers are more useful than singers. Singers are more famous simply because they *have to* make noise as part of their job description. Mikkalai 22:03, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete - Not famous No Guru 22:23, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. "Lynx Konqueror", the product that he developed, returns less than 200 hits on Google. - DropDeadGorgias (talk) 22:28, Mar 5, 2004 (UTC) [this vote should be ignored as it is based on a mistake in the article at 22:28, which was fixed at 03:14 the next day. Anthony DiPierro ]
    • Wow, you've got to be kidding me. Lynx Konqueror is like Internet Explorer for Linux: it's the most popular browser made solely for Linux (Mozilla wasn't made solely for Linux). ugen64 03:12, Mar 6, 2004 (UTC)
    • My mistake, it should be Konqueror. Try searching again. ugen64 03:15, Mar 6, 2004 (UTC)
    • Lynx and Konqueror are two separate products. Anthony DiPierro 03:34, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Everyking 22:41, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete: insignificant. "If all developers are famous we're in for a lot of new pages" -- yup. Wile E. Heresiarch 02:02, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • However, if no developers are famous we're in for a lot of deletions. Anthony DiPierro 03:35, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
      • (1) We're voting on exactly one page here, to be decided on its own merits. We're not voting for "a lot" of pages. (2) If you wish to put "a lot" of pages up for VfD, I won't stop you. Wile E. Heresiarch 03:52, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
        • You're the one who brought up "all developers." My vote is with regard to this famous developer. Anthony DiPierro 03:55, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • delete, nonfamous. --Jiang 07:48, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep: He is a developer. Optim·.· 08:26, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • This is absurd. He's a developer, I'm a developer, lots of people are developers. WP is not the phone book. Wile E. Heresiarch 03:52, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. It's in a metastable area of my personal opinion. I honestly think that a) the article shouldn't have been included, but b) now that it's there, it shouldn't be deleted. Quite a lot of Wikipedia articles are in that zone, actually. It's certainly factual, certainly not nonsense. Note that "Lynx Konqueror" only gets a few hundred Google hits, but "Harri Porten" gets 3250, not bad. Dpbsmith 12:05, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • If you look on the search for "Lynx Konqueror" you'll notice a comma between Lynx and Konqueror. They are two different products, both of which are popular enough for their own page on Wikipedia. Anthony DiPierro 12:41, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
      • Harri Porten is not a major figure in either one. He's credited as one of about 20 authors of Konqueror (from the Konqueror "About" button), and he is not listed as one of the 6 authors of Lynx (on the Lynx man page), so presumably he ranks somewhere below that. Wile E. Heresiarch 03:52, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
        • I'm fairly sure he hasn't worked on lynx at all. Anthony DiPierro 03:54, 7 Mar 2004 (UTC)
          • He has not... I accidentally made the link Lynx Konqueror instead of Konqueror... ugen64 15:37, Mar 7, 2004 (UTC)
  • We have reached no consensus... so what shall we do now? (EDIT: My vote is keep) ugen64 15:38, Mar 7, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. If you delete this article, then you will have to delete Linus Torvalds, Bjarne Stroustrup, and all references that point to User:Jimbo Wales, User:Larry Sanger, and User:maveric149 on various Wikipedia articles. --Maio 15:27, Mar 10, 2004 (UTC)

For anyone watching this page...[edit]

I might bring it up for deletion sometime soon. It doesn't seem to have been improved at all since the last deletion nomination. So, if you're keen on keeping Harri around, start talking about him!Ravenmasterq 23:03, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why important[edit]

He wrote KJS, a JavaScript interpreter, as free software, which was then used by a very large company (Apple) and has been forked several times since then (Google). Almost every web browser today is using some descendant of KJS and KHTML. Kind of crazy when you think about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.144.209.8 (talk) 23:37, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
