Redirect discussion[edit]

This stub has been redirected to Cuisine of Hawaii since May 2012 for several reasons.

  1. It was previously unsourced/poorly sourced
  2. The parent article, Cuisine of Hawaii, already covers the topic with the good quality reliable sources
  3. Until the time comes that the topic can be split out into its own article, it is best covered in the parent article

Recently, an editor restored the poorly sourced stub, added additional poor sources, and duplicated content that already exists in the parent article. Unless this stub is greatly expanded, I suggest and recommend restoring the redirect. Viriditas (talk) 02:55, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

  • Let him work, Vir. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 07:43, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • I would love to, Jer. However, before he started to "work", this is what he restored. If he's going to expand and write about the topic, great, but restoring an unsourced stub doesn't work. So far, he's manage to copy the content I wrote and the sources I used from the parent article into this one without attribution, which not just violates our free licensing guidelines specified by WP:COPYWITHIN, but passes off material I wrote and sourced (from books he has no access to at all) as his own. So to recap, his "work" consists of restoring an unsourced stub and copying my work verbatim into this article without attribution and once again ignoring MOS:IMAGES and WP:LAYIM. You've made this same false allegation (after a long series of other dishonest attacks) on two article talk pages. Here is the diff where I clearly indicated where the content was added from. Please cease with your harassments and disruptions and dishonest attacks. It is enough already. Hawaiian for Dummies is a legitimate source for basic content. You are the one who asked for additional citations. If you want to take it to the reliable sources noticeboard feel free. It seems like more disruptive time wasting on content that was so basic it didn't need citations anwyay. Candleabracadabra (talk) 15:40, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You referred to the term "Hawaiian cuisine" when the article is called "Cuisine of Hawaii". I did not recognize this attribution since it referred to a different title that is in use. "Hawaiian for Dummies" is not a legitimate source for this article, as we already have legitimate sources in use about food in Hawaii. What material did you find in "Hawaiian for Dummies" that isn't already in the sources you copied over from the parent article? Of course, you don't know, because you haven't read the sources you've cited, you simply copypasted them over with the intent to expand this one. Viriditas (talk) 19:54, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I will make an edit and to clarify where the content was merged from. I'm sorry I didn't get it quite right. Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:19, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, as I didn't recognize you attempted to do it in the first place. My mistake. Viriditas (talk) 00:52, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Viritidas, you need to let him work on this article, he wants to improve it. You're not being very helpful, please assume good faith let him add the stuff he wants to add. After he has completed what he wants to do and you can prove what he has done is not up to par you can discuss it then. Objecting to everything Candleabracadabra tries to do is not productive. This smacks of WP:I don't like it and WP:Own. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 17:52, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Except, the consensus of other editors (not me) was to redirect this unsourced stub to the parent article, where it is already sourced with the highest quality citations. If he wants to expand it, he needs to do actual research and not remove material from the parent article, and refrain from using poor sources. Viriditas (talk) 19:54, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Why do I have to say this? WP:Consensus can change. Plus it takes time to build up an article, let him work. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 08:38, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization[edit]

This article title and the bolded first use of the phrase in this article do not capitalize, but an editor has capitalized the phrase in the Cuisine of Hawaii article and it is noted that it is a trademarked term and capitalized later in this article. Should it be capitalized or not? I don't really care one way or the other, but it would be nice to be consistent and accurate. Candleabracadabra (talk) 15:42, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If it will help you, feel free to directly quote me to avoid misinterpretations. Should the term be capitalized? How do our best sources use the term? They capitalized the term as "Hawaii Regional Cuisine" both as a marketing term and as a way to create their own specific brand. Please examine the best sources on the subject and report back with your findings. After all, you created this stub. You should at least familiarize yourself with the sources you are using. If you need help, feel free to ask. Viriditas (talk) 04:18, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I would follow the WP:Naming conventions and Go with the current formation. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 20:55, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Another editor has just made it lower-case in the main Cuisine of Hawaii article and included their reasoning in an edit summary. It's written both ways in sources. As a trademarked term it's capitalized, used more generally it's written lowercase. I am okay with going with the editor who expressed an opinion and will stick with lowercase going forward.
