Examples getting too big[edit]

I think that the Examples section is becoming just a place to add your favorite headlines. We need something better. I'm currently trying to write a categorization of various types of headlines that occur frequently. If anyone has any objections to this, please bring them up. Letterman's "Small Town News"[edit]

Has anyone else noticed that "Small Town News" on The Late Show is a complete ripoff of "Headlines"?

Small Town News is not a ripoff of Headlines. Dave began doing Small Town News on his morning show on NBC (The David Letterman Show) back in 1980. The segment was regularly featured on Late Night with David Letterman throughout the '80s. Jay Leno didn't start doing Headlines until he became Johnny Carson's regular guest host on the Tonight Show around 1987. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by NIST91 (talkcontribs) 06:34, 1 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Headlines Page Orphaned[edit]

I believe following the switch from Leno to Conan, all the external links and examples of headlines have lead to dead links. Should the dead links be removed altogether? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ctrlaltdecimate (talkcontribs) 03:26, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's got some information on what to do here. I tried the Wayback Machine, and I found ref 29 there. I haven't checked them all, but I think we could use the Wayback machine for this. Wuffyz 03:34, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Uniform references[edit]

Why are there sixty-five references that say the EXACT SAME THING, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, NBC.com, retrieved 2009-06-05?" Shouldn't there only be one, with sixty-five footnotes referring to it?Wikieditor1988 (talk) 02:23, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Each of the references links to a different page, but the title of all the pages are the same. Thus they are different references, but look the same to the naked eye. --Zoeydahling (talk) 06:35, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Headlines from The Jay Leno Show[edit]

Can anybody find references for headlines that was shown on The Jay Leno Show? There are some headlines on the page that was shown on Leno's prime-time talk show.98.248.61.157 (talk) 03:59, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Categories section[edit]

  • Now, Headlines is my favorite segment on Leno (well, that and 99-cent Shopping Spree), but that giant category section was just an egregious example of listcruft, despite the sources (which were almost completely primary, btw). There wasn't even any basis of why those particular examples were given; it seems like random editors just came in and listed their favorite Headline. • On another topic, I removed that AfD cleanup tag because that discussion was about Conan's show, not Jay's. Erpert (let's talk about it) 09:11, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Monday/Tuesday night[edit]

I've noticed the ONLY times it's been moved to Tuesday night is only after some big weekend event. For instance, afer Super Bowl Sunday, a skit was done in its place on Monday night, so Headlines was moved to Tuesday. Another event- the Academy Awards on Sunday caused a skit with Ross in place of Headlines. So far, the only times it has been moved from Monday to Tuesday was because of some big weekend event.[[File:--76.216.122.136 (talk) 04:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Example.jpg--76.216.122.136 (talk) 04:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC)]][reply]
