[edit] Brian Whittaker
Think its very sad that you guys have not put together a page on the Late great Brian Whittaker who was a very influential player for hearts during the 80s and 90s who tragically died in a road accident in 1996

[edit] Stadium plans
On 20/08/07 Hearts revealed their plans for the redevelopment of the new stand which has helped to ease some of the pressure from the fans. While Romanov is eccentric and seems to make bizarre decisions regarding team selection he does seem to be delivering in some aspects. The sale of Craig Gordon to Sunderland for £9m was undoubtedly a great piece of business increasing the capacity of Tynecastle to 23,000 by creating a new stand demonstrates that he clearly has some ambition for Hearts.
The details of the redevelopment of the main stand are as follows:
-The club will submit an application for a new 10,000-seat Main Stand, plus hotel and leisure facilities
-The newly-developed stadium will ultimately lead to the creation of over 300 new jobs and provide an economic boost of at least £1.2m per season to both the immediate area and the wider city economy
-The total cost of the development will be £51 million
-250 new full-time jobs will be created and 57 part-time
-The project team includes world renowned architecture, engineering, surveying, project management, environmental, town planning and urban design businesses —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mcurrie977 (talk • contribs) 23:19, August 20, 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Romanov
this site is all wrong Romanov is the greatest thing that has happened at Hearts the players aswell. Is he really the nutter that this article portrays him to be? no he is not (82.43.189.130 12:46, 28 January 2007 (UTC))
[edit] Fred & barney
Hearts record scorer in a single season is not Fred Flintstone's best pal Barney Rubble.
Is it possible for me to add the signing of Fyssas into this Wiki?
- Also Joe Hamill signed for Leicester 14/08/05
I think a section about the whole Lithuanian takeover should be included, although maybe it should wait until we see how Hearts perform in the 2005-06 season and whether they make a challenge against the Old Firm its 2011 wake up were 3rd
Can we remove the bit about Murrayfield? This is a controversial topic! Tynecastle has been modified over the summer so there should now be no problem using it for Europe.
There is absolutley no sectarian rivalry behind the Edinburgh derby, I have stated this time and time again, thus I have removed it.
[edit] Locking page
What is the point if whoever did it can't be bothered checking the page? Please change the Barney Rubble thing back. 19/08/05
"Some paranoid Hearts supporters attributed this loss...." I've removed 'paranoid' and the later bit on Paul Hartley as they were unnecessary
[edit] Country listing
Snowbound - the country is not the UK - it should be listed as Scotland - as it is with every other Scottish league side. You say in your edit summary "Anymore reverts will be reported to wikipedia" - that tells me you don't really understand how this place works. There is nothing to report to anybody - listing Scotland as the country is the standard for all Scottish sides - by constantly editing in the UK (which is not the standard and not the long term consensus of other wikipedia editors) your edits may be construed as purposeful vandalism. If you disagree with the situation then post here and other editors will chip in with their views, but don't start a revert war - that is not cool. SFC9394 14:54, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
It's not listing the country, it's the ADDRESS of the ground. The address should end United Kingdom. No UK postal address uses Scotland, England etc. Scotland is also a nation by the way, NOT a country. Our country is called the United Kingdom.
My point is very valid. Stop thinking you own the damn entry.
-
- Can you please sign your post with four tildes as the welcome notice on your talk page suggests - thank you. As for the issue at hand - it is not an address - it neither gives a street, or the postcode - and no other club page treats it as an address. I will repeat with absolute clarity for you - no other scottish league side has uk added - indeed no other english side even has a country listed. I will also state with 100% clarity here snowbound (since I have just seen the personal attack you made against me on the Rangers talk page[1]) that the way you are going about this is not going to get you anywhere. This is a collaboratively built encyclopedia - collaboration, discussion and consensus decide what does and does not go in, and using foul language against me is not going to help your case one bit. The very small number of edits you have made have all being doing the same thing, and this suggest you are only here to push your POV, not contribute positively to the encyclopedia. Don't make personal attacks against other editors - that is a warnable offence - and don't change this article text back without coming up with substantive and valid reasoning for why it should go against the standards used by every other side in Scotland (and England). SFC9394 11:09, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
I know this is off the topic but to the guy who stated 'Scotland is also a nation by the way, NOT a country' is wrong. It has already been agreed on the Scotland page that Scotland is both a country and a nation. You are getting country and sovereign state mixed up. Also on the Downing Street web site it describes Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland as Countries within a country. Therefore Scotland is a country and nation and the UK is a country, nation and sovereign state. So please get your facts right. Just got kinda ticked off sorry people.
So according to Snowbound's opinions, which he appears to want to ram down everyone else's throats, we're not allowed to have our own national identities any more? I'm English, but please don't hold it against me all you scots reading this ;-), my friends and neighbours to the north of that particular border are Scottish, my neighbours to the west are Welsh, and my neighbours further west and over the sea are (north of their own border) Northern Irish - how dare you try and force us to take on your own pile of PC nonsense. Snowbound - listen to this bit carefully, and hopefully you might understand and learn something: yes, we all live in the UK, but there are 4 different nations as far as the sport of football is concerned (amongst other things) please explain exactly when the UK football association and UK football league system were formed, as it appears to have passed everyone else by completely. Sure, from a political point of view, we are linked in many ways, but that does NOT apply to football, and this article is about a football club - get your facts right and stop being so darned pedantic!!!
To some of the above contributers: Please don't embarrass Hearts with suggestions of them having a "Scottish" identity, how ridiculous and bigoted! Most Hearts fans are proud British Nationalists and like to wave union flags at matches and sing songs about African slaves or "coons", conservative governments, and the glorious British bombing of Iraq . True hearts fans are offended at being called "Scottish", please stop doing so. This is not the place for it and Hearts are not a club to be associated with it! Do you not know your history and Many thanks! Hmloyal (talk) 18:42, 8 July 2008 (UTC) Sir Stamford Raffles, 8th of July, 1874
[edit] Listmania
I removed the list an anon editor had added as I thought it was becoming a bit listcrufty. I hope that is ok. On a similar note, I wonder how we can format the notable players section so it doesn't dominate the article. Any thoughts? --Guinnog 18:32, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right about the lists, although adding the coaching staff (what the anon had added in list form) is quite common on more developed articles and probably worthy of inclusion. If you look at the Celtic and Rangers articles, their non-playing staff sections just about go as far as listing the tea lady!
- I think the notable players section would better suit its own page - see List of Arsenal F.C. players or List of Chelsea F.C. players as examples - with a link from the main page and through the Template:Heart of Midlothian F.C..
- Similarly, the History, particularly the Romanov era section, is also getting quite long and probably also needs moved out, similar to what has recently happened with the Scotland article. I imagine this would be a time-consuming and daunting task though, as major work is required to expand the earlier eras and remove the bias towards the recent. Caledonian Place 09:34, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- I have re-added the non-playing staff, more or less in the format used on the Celtic and Rangers pages. Given that the larger lists created by User:DavyJAllan are now on separate linked pages, I thought their addition would add something without verging on listcruft. Especially given the current size of the Hearts "board"! Caledonian Place 02:05, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:HEARTS LOGO.GIF
Image:HEARTS LOGO.GIF is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:36, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dates & dashes
En dashes should be used in scorelines and only full dates and dates with a day and month should be wikilinked, including in the footnotes. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dashes) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). Epbr123 20:48, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] John Rebus
In his book "Mortal Causes", the writer Ian Rankin portrays Rebus as a Hearts supporter. But in the SMG television production, he comes across as supporting Hibs! Millbanks 08:21, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hearts Record Signing
On January 31st Heart of Midlothian paid the Belgian side Racing Genk £0.85 million for their Bosnian international winger Mirsad Beslija.
This was a significant sum of money for Hearts as he became the clubs record signing. Since signing for Hearts Besliga made only a handfull of appearances even though he was reasonably well liked by the fans. The fact that Hearts paid a huge amount of money for an international footballer then hardly played him is just one of many strange happenings at Tynecastle in since Vladimir Romanov took charge of the club. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Srm12 (talk • contribs) 18:10:49, August 19, 2007 (UTC).
Beslija struggled with injuries and then when he came into the team, he was pants. Nothing to do with Romanov that one —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.41.59.85 (talk) 02:57, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Heart of Midlothian F.C.#Mascots
I have created this new section to merge in information from the 'Tynie Tigers' page that was about to be deleted as an expired prod. I should be grateful if one of the editors here can check the accuracy of the second sentence please? TerriersFan (talk) 23:42, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] History : World War 1
I'm surprised there's no mention in the history section of the Hearts team enlisting at the start of World War 1. Some info at http://www.heartsfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/WarMemorial/0,,10289,00.html --Phil Barker 13:03, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
I concur. Jack Alexander's book 'Mcrae's Battalion' an easily referencable historical source, documents how Hearts were instrumental in saving football from being axed during the first world war when the whole first team signed u en masse. This was a significant chapter in not only the club's history but the whole of football and deserves a mention.Tarzanlordofthejungle (talk) 13:43, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
[edit] hearts colours
I added a comment about Hearts playing in red, white and blue. Here is a site that would seem to confirm that.. http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Heart_of_Midlothian/Heart_of_Midlothian.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hmloyal (talk • contribs) 18:32, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Locking the page
This page seems to have been targeted by vandals. Would it be possible to lock it for a while? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shughamster (talk • contribs) 15:13, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hearts Colour
I am a little sorry I started this. But Hearts' first colours were white as far as my research takes me. There is also an urban myth that the colour maroon was developed when someone washed the red/white/blue shirts in the boil wash86.131.209.137 (talk) 15:37, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Which references are you using for your research? If they meet Wikipedia's guidelines for reliable sources, there shouldn't be a problem adding your material to the article. Doonhamer (talk) 16:53, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Notable players
I trimmed this list; these can become terrible cruft magnets if they are allowed to grow unchecked. Most good football team articles have clearly defined criteria for inclusion on the list. It's usually 100 appearances for the club or something universally (ie not just by fans) regarded as exceptional. The danger is that this list could otherwise eventually duplicate the category. Hope that makes sense. --John (talk) 22:58, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Can I ask how players such as Andy Webster, Alan Maybury and even Paul Hartley have been added to notable former players yet Hearts legends such as Henry Smith, John Colquhoun, Scott Crabbe and even Big Dave McPherson have been omitted? The person who trimmed this list clearly knows nothing about Hearts. 28/4/09 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.41.59.85 (talk • contribs)
STOP PUTTING ANDY WEBSTER THERE HE WAS NOT A NOTABLE PLAYER! —Preceding unsigned comment added by AnythingGoesLikeThat (talk • contribs) 15:55, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- I am going to remove the tag and assume that 100 appearances for Hearts is the criterion for inclusion. Feel free to restart this debate if anybody disagrees. --John (talk) 20:18, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Twirly
I'm sure the Twirly is quite a tradition at Hearts - but to say it's been recently been taken up by Newcastle & Man U is well wide of the mark - this was very common in the early 70's in England (and I'd imagine Scotland as well) - done to different tunes at different clubs - "As I was saying Goodbye to my horse" was popular among Yorkshire clubs. I remember Leeds supporters doing it to the words "As I was saying goodbye to the shed" when the scratching shed was closed and demolished to make way for the new South Stand - which dates this at around 1974

[edit] Talk:Hearts#Primary_topic
There is a discussion about this article at Talk:Hearts#Primary_topic. The question is whether or not there is a primary topic for Hearts, and, if so, if it is the US card game. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 21:54, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Kits 2011-12
The kits for the new season have now been added to the main page the only thing thats wong with them is the socks if anyone is any good with templates and nows how to change them it would be appreciated. Warburton1368 (talk) 16:36, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Squad table format
A discussion is being held here on the possibility of rolling out a new squad template. The new template, named {{football squad player2}}, differs from the standard squad layout in several ways:
- It features a sort function
- Comes in a single column format that can be understood by screen readers.
- Single column format ensures that low resolution browsers, including mobile devices, do not get part or all of the second column cut off.
- Single column format ensures less clutter, particularly at lower resolutions, for wide sections such as the Arsenal loan section.
- It gives nationality its own column; at present flags are featured in a blank, untitled column
- It complies with Wikipedia's guidance on flag usage.
- It leaves enough space to add images of current players, an example of which can be seen at Watford F.C#Current squad.
This article is taking part in that trial to give your thoughts, please read and contribute to the discussion at WikiProject Football.
