Each Finger on each hand has a number and a value. For instance the left index finger is finger #7 and has the value 2. The number and values are as follows.

The first thing you have to do correlate the finger number with its minutia.

EX)

Finger#| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | Minutia| W | W | L | W | A | W | A | L | A | W |

Where W = Whorl, L = Loop, and A = Arch minutia types.

Next you take the value of the even number whorls. -In this case, Finger# 2, 4, 6, and 10 -Value of Finger# 2 is 16 -Value of Finger# 4 is 8 -Value of Finger# 6 is 4 -Value of Finger# 10 is 1

Then we take the value of the odd number whorls. -In this case, Finger# 1, and 7 -Value of Finger# 1 is 16 -Value of Finger# 7 is 2

Now we add these values up

-Even (16 + 8 + 4 + 1) = 29

-Odd (16 + 2) = 18

Then we add them to the equation (E+1) / (O+1)

So now we get

(29 + 1) / (18 + 1)

This gives us our Henry Classification Number of 30/19

Even if the person has no Whorls, their classification is still 1/1

This number can now be used to narrow down the ammout of prints to compare to. Which speeds up the proccess tremendously.

If this is all correct, hopefully it can be reworked into a format that explains the concept a little more clearly and maybe some nifty little charts. -- Scientizzle 23:46, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

It's correct as far as it goes, but that's just the Primary section of the Henry classification. There's also the Key, Major, Secondary, Subsecondary, and Final. Infotrope (talk) 20:01, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
