Sir Henry Cotton[edit]

Henry Cotton has always been a favourite historic golfer of mine. I have read - years ago - many of his books. I have also watched the Open Championships on the BBC for many years and have often wondered why no-one epecially Peter Allis and his collegues, to my ear at least, have never mentioned the name of Henry Cotton. Peter Allis yesterday talked about many golfers of the past but never mentioned Henry Cotton. When you look at his record as a professional Golfer, three Opens and his contribition to the Golf Foundation one has got to ask why? Date of birth[edit]

The ODNB gives 28 January 1907 with the reference being his birth certificate. 26 January was given as birthday during his lifetime. eg Northern Whig for 27 Jan 1940 says he celebrated his 33rd birthday "yesterday". The Times obituary gives this date too. The date given here [1] is 26 January 1908 but it must be 1907 (confirmed by birth registration). Nigej (talk) 15:36, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
