One thing is to say, as Der Spiegel also did, that Mozart, born in Salzburg (Austria), was German, because indeed he was of German ancestry and spoke the German language in a time when no "Germany" in the sense of the current State existed. He is Austrian. He lives in Munich/Germany but still is Austrian.
