In Spanish language countries, the first surname is the main surname, so Hernando de Escalante Fontaneda should not be quoted as "Fontaneda" but as "Escalante".--220.127.116.11 22:50, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Which raises another issue; there are no citations or references in this article other than to the translation of Hernando de Escalante Fontaneda's own memoir. I read somewhere that his memoirs did not relate who rescued him, and there's some dispute on this issue. Ileanadu (talk) 03:33, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
