On Lamarck[edit]

Although Lamarck's theory incorporated soft inheritance, so did Charles Darwin's: On the Origin of Species states "there can be little doubt that use in our domestic animals strengthens and enlarges certain parts, and disuse diminishes them; and that such modifications are inherited", which he assumed by analogy would apply in nature. The cited source is cautious, referring to neo-Lamarckism: our Lamarckism article includes that later version of Lamarck's ideas, so I've tried to trim the section to information actually supported by the source. The issue is to be careful to avoid going beyond what the source says, and sometimes frustratingly to also avoid "synthesis" of introducing sources that don't specifically refer to the topic of the article. I've also added a couple of wikilinks: there are surprisingly many articles on organisms and so on, the easiest way to check is to paste the term into the search box and, if an article isn't immediately suggested, try a search for related articles.
