[edit] Recent Edits

I'm new to editing and am experimenting with Wikipedia. Specifically I'm trying to improve the Houston Rockets page. I listed the recent changes I've made with their rationale.

Change (1)

Text Addition

On August 25, the Rockets traded Sean Singletary to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for guard D.J. Strawberry, the 59th overall pick in 2007 by the Suns. This move helps bring some added depth to the SG position for the Rockets.

Rationale

The Wikipedia article lacked this transaction.

Change (2)

Text Addition

On August 29, the Rockets traded Patrick Ewing Jr. to the New York Knicks in exchange for the rights to French center Frederic Weis, a 1999 first-round draft pick that has yet to make his NBA debut. There has been no news indicating if Weis will give up playing basketball overseas to move to the NBA.

Rationale

The Wikipedia article lacked this latest transaction.

Text Revision

Original:

"But without Yao Ming who broke his left foot in the second half of the season, the Rockets were yet again eliminated by the Utah Jazz in the first round."

My edit:

The Houston Rockets came into the 2007-2008 playoffs without Yao Ming, who was still injured. This injury contributed to the Rockets elimination by the Utah Jazz in the first round (2-4).

Rationale

I believe that it's relevant to include the series results (2 games to 4) and its easier to identify within the body of the first paragraph instead of searching around the article.

Change (4)

Text Revision

Original:

"Less than a week later, Scola signed with the Rockets. Scola performed well during the season, becoming the starting power forward mid-season. Scola has brought some much needed rebounding and inside presence that the Rockets desperately showed a lack of in their 2006 NBA Playoffs loss to the Utah Jazz, and he came at a very small price as the Rockets traded away seldolm-used Vassilis Spanoulis for him. Hopefully, Scola will be another piece of the puzzle that the Rockets are attempting to build so they can regain their elite championship stats from the 1990s."

My edit:

Less than a week later, Scola signed with the Rockets. Scola started the season coming off the bench but performed well when given the minutes. Scola eventually earned the starting PF job by mid-season, replacing Chuck Hayes.

Rationale

I felt that the original text was written by a hopeful Houston Rocket fan's perspective. I trimmed it down a bit but added some minor details that I thought was important.

Change (5)

Text Addition

Assistant Coach Tom Thibodeau left the Houston Rockets after Jeff Van Gundy's dismissal. He went to the Boston Celtics as an assistant coach and was instrumental in their 2007-2008 season and playoff successes.

Rationale

Tom Thibodeau is a noteworthy departure from the Rockets team. He's considered as a significant reason for the Celtics' success this past season.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please do not use rumors and alleged reports as an excuse to update a team's roster. If you want to update a team's roster, please check the Rockets roster on their official website [1] for news and changes. This way, team roster information is kept official and up-to-date.Dknights411 18:50, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

"They formerly were at the Compaq Center, once "The Summit", but they pressured the city for a new stadium, and they granted it to them." <-----this sentence has too many THEYs. Kingturtle 04:53, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I'm not sure the page needs this many guys listed under the "Not to be forgotten" category... especially this many people who don't even have a Wikipedia page yet... you think we should shorten it to 5 or 10? ekedolphin 06:11, Feb 3, 2005 (UTC)

I agree. This section shouldn't be the listing of "Who's Who of the Houston Rockets' Playoff Seasons" or highly decorated players that even played for the Rockets for a season or two (e.g., Scottie Pippen, Glen Rice). I say it gets cut down to people who've been on the team for longer than 4/5 years and/or put significant contribution to the team's play. There's no reason to put players on here who played on the bench and/or never grew up (e.g., Eddie Griffin, Matt Maloney, and Othella Harrington). I'll wittled it down some and added Mike Dunleavy. I can't believe no one had him added. Retropunk 23:44, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

I put {{cleanup}} on because this article has numerous grammar and spelling mistakes. I'll try to clean this article up, but any help would be appreciated! Flcelloguy 01:36, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

I've started cleaning this article up, in the process expanding it as well. Not quite done- I've only covered the first two or three sections. I'll be back... :) Flcelloguy 19:00, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Troy Bell

User 68.91.13.38 has changed Contributions Troy Bell from the Hornets to the Rockets. It looks wrong but I can't find the necessary information at the NBA, Rockets or Hornets site. This user has made vandalistic edits to Tracy McGrady but I'm not sure about Bell. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 04:01, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Season by Season Record list

I would like there to be one, can you please put it the article?

[edit] Playoff Follies

I'd like to see some sort of opinion column from the time that supports the notion that the Barkley trade was made to beat the Sonics after repeated failed attempts(even though they'd just won back to back titles", as well as the "once again defeated by the Lakers in the first round", although it had been awhile since the Rockets, especially the new nucleus of players, had been defeaten by the Lakers in the playoffs.

[edit] Roster

Isn't Joey Dorsey cut? I know Mike Harris is but there is another cut the team made before opening day. Any ideas?

[edit] Leslie Alexander and Las Vegas

In March 1997, according to the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, the team owner Leslie Alexander had an interest involving the Rockets franchise in the Las Vegas area. Rumors surfaced of a team move which never took place as Houston was a larger and more favorable market. I'm pretty sure the Las Vegas area may get a NBA franchise in the early 2010's, but never the Rockets. + Mike D 26 11:57, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unsigned Overseas Draft Picks

There seems to be some debate over whether this section should be included or not. To me, it is not a matter of size or clutter, it is a matter of relevance. Other NBA team articles that have been promoted to featured or GA status do not have a similar section included. Toronto Raptors (FA), Los Angeles Lakers (GA), Portland Trail Blazers (GA), and even the Rockets article that was promoted to GA do not include the section. If I were to base my opinion of the situation on that of other successful articles, I would suggest removing the section. Almosthonest06 (talk) 21:48, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] T-Mac

Tracy McGrady's nickname "T-Mac" appears in the article without an explanation. I would suggest adding it in Brackets: "...Houston saw major changes in the roster as the Rockets acquired Tracy McGrady (T-Mac) in a seven-player deal ...". What do you think?
