Most people looking at the name "Hurricane" would assume that it is pronounced like the usual "hurricane" when referring to cyclonic storms. However, if you want to really stand out when visiting the town, say it like that. The way people who live there pronounce it is hur'i'kun (the "i" is often pronounced like a short "u" or the upside down "e"). The old-timers, who are usually descendants of the original settlers will call it "hair'u'kun". They have their own accent handed down and 'morphed' through generations of Mormon pioneers who migrated from England.

Claiming that the way the town's name is pronounced by the older residents is "British" is very, very misleading. No trilling of the "r"s, no British inflections. I live here and would say that the old pronunciation of the town sounds more like a Southern U.S. dialect (I've also lived in Houston, so I know whereof I speak). I will say that the older residents get really upset when you pronounce the name of the town the way the rest of the country does and will often get quite nasty in their corrections. Therefore, I've taken to calling it "The Cane" in order to keep the peace.

I really think that the front page of this article should either eliminate talk of the mispronunciation of the town or should give clarification to let others know that there is a strong Southern dialect in its pronunciation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.211.33.34 (talk) 16:03, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Picture / Awkward Layout[edit]

Not a Wikipedia um, contributor but I can verify that the FNAF books, while set in a different continuity from the games, follow the same universe laws. It’s set in Hurricane! The FNAF Silver Eyes wiki article includes several sources.
