2 cents[edit]

I think having the separate article is better. Merge? NO! Vaoverland 01:14, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also vote no for the merge. Not all towns are incorporated towns. An incorporated town is a specific type of town. For example, in Illinois, there are a few municipalities (like villages and cities) called incorporated towns; however, within the same state there are also unincorporated townships, which are sometimes simply called towns. In my opinion, Town should actually become a disambiguation page. Squideshi 03:53, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is a great deal of diversity between municipalities across the United States. Each state has created their own version of what cities and towns (and villages and townships) do. I would not merge them. I also think that we should get a group of people interested in local government matters to get together and make a project of it. Existing Illinois incorporated towns[edit]

There is currently a disagreement between the two references cited regarding which municipalities are indeed incorporated towns. I found at least two errors in the first reference (Name Index to Local Governments[1]). It lists the municipalities of Annawan and Bentley as incorporated towns when the second reference (Incorporated Cities, Towns, and Villages of Illinois[2]) and these municipalities' own official websites list them as villages. Both references are from sources ultimately published by the Illinois Secretary of State. I made corrections according to the second reference, as it was accessed at a later date and it appears to be consistent with the municipalities own official websites. I am going to contact the Illinois Secretary of State regarding the inconsistency. Squideshi (talk) 21:59, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
