@Jflm1012: regarding your note "Remove Orlando Terrorist from notable alumni per college officials" - "college officials" do not hold any special editorial authority for the English Wikipedia. Do you have reason to think this person is not actually notable or not actually an alumni? In thinking of notable alumni as alumni of distinction, this suggests positive contributions to society and the idea of holding a man who murdered 49 + innocent people in such high regard and giving him so much notoriety for that act is not only repulsive but premature as wikipedia's own policy on notability states that "Notable topics have attracted attention over a sufficiently significant period of time" and five days does not constitute this.Jflm1012 (talk) 21:09, 16 June 2016 (UTC)jflm1012[reply]

Thank you for your response, and that may be a better reason to remove it - adding in some editors that recently worked on this section: @Parsley Man:, @PaulinSaudi:. Not meeting notability requirements is a valid argument - because someone with a conflict of interest said so is not.

@Xaosflux: In searching for Indian River State College Omar Mateen is often the first thing people take note of. Webster's defines "notable" as: (see collapsed section above). While I understand that his story is likely not going to disappear, I am requesting that his story not be Indian River State College's story. While he is an alumni and should be listed on the "more comprehensive list" click through I request that he be removed from the "notable people" list per above. While I am not going to revert your most recent removal of this information personally, other editors may do so. It's utterly undeniable that Omar Mateen meets notabiltiy requirements, for example having his own article. Similiarly, his attendance at the college isn't in question either, as such this is an open and shut case. Wikipedia isn't some public relations exercise for promoting colleges by cherry-picking their best and most successful alumni. Wikipedia doesn't discriminate, and only notability and being able to verify his attendance at the college matters. The reasons for an individuals notability are utterly irrelevant and not something to consider at all. I've therefore obviously restored the material.--Shakehandsman (talk) 06:20, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
