Vassals Dobrotitsa and Vladislav of Wallachia?[edit]

is there any source that mention either as vassal of Ivan Alexander? Cause in Fine's Late Medieval Balkans, mentioned as source, says nothing about it. Moreover there is said that Balik, the predecessor of Dobrotitsa, defected Ivan Alexander in the 1340's, and to further assert his independence from Trnovo, Dobrotitsa separated his church from that of Trnovo (page 367) Anonimu 21:01, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And here; "...and Ivan Alexander's third son and co-emperor, Ivan Asen IV, was killed in battle against the Turks in 1349..." - any citation on for this statement? Transliteration[edit]

I'm not sure what is standard for Bulgarian, but isn't 'ъ' usually transliterated 'ă' and not 'ǎ' (e.g. breve, not hachek)? - Francis Tyers · 23:57, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if the UN really says it's a hachek, then everything should be OK. I hadn't checked, to be honest, I thought that if ž, č, š all use a hachek, then it should be a hachek for ъ too :) User:Imladjov, who wrote most of the article actually and chose to use the scholarly transliteration system, had already used ǎ, if I remember correctly. I just took another look at the map, and it confirmed my suspicions that you're using 'ă' in the map, and 'ǎ' in the text. This isn't a big issue, but it would be nice to use the same standard within the same article. - Francis Tyers · 11:35, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please check if everything's OK now. I got a bit confused by those diacritics, but I hope I've done everything right. I had to manually substitute breves with haceks in the map because the two fonts had no "ǎ" (or at least I couldn't find it in CorelDRAW). Todor→Bozhinov 13:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's very naive to think there might be anything wrong with the family tree of Ivan Alexander. This is a featured article, so everything has been checked and reliable sources have been provided. In this case, these are Božilov, Ivan (2006). Istorija na srednovekovna Bǎlgarija VII-XIV vek (tom 1) (in Bulgarian). Anubis. ISBN 9544262040. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help) and Božilov, Familijata na Asenevci, pp. 192-235. If you have anything to say about Ivan Alexander's family tree, then please refer to the Bulgarian academic community, and stop doing these ungrounded changes to the article. I am providing you with a primary source. If you do not know what is primary source look it up. This is a family portrait of Ivan Alexander. This "picture" as you call it was made during his reign and it was kept at the royal library at Tsarevets. It illustrates Ivan Alexander with his second wife and their children. It is currently kept at the British Library. There is no better source then that. And yet you have not provided me with your source. On what are based your changes?
I fail to see how a portrait can be a source in that case, and it is not an academic reference in any case. I have provided enough references, so I consider this discussion over, and I will treat it as vandalism from now on. Relations with Serbia[edit]

Spelling[edit]

The name in Bulgarian is written Иван-Александър according to the orthography rules and I suggest that someone should change also the English orthography to Ivan-Aleksandar everywhere the name is mentioned. 95.42.243.197 (talk) 08:38, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did a quick Google search for reference and the forms 'Ivan Alexander' and 'John Alexander' clearly predominate in English. The form 'Иван Александър' seems to be far more popular in Bulgarian than 'Иван-Александър' as well. The name of the Bulgarian wiki article was changed without consensus or discussion. FAR issues[edit]

I checked this article for WP:URFA/2020 and question whether it meets the FA requirement to consistently cite high-quality reliable sources. Some of this article's sources look OK, others definitely not. I went ahead and removed citations to self-published websites and there are a lot of cleanup tags.
