Historical event for Salem?[edit]

Would Mr. Smith's election to Congress be a first for little Salem, MO and if so would it bo considered noteworthy enough to keep in the history section of that page? There is some heated discussion about that at the Salem, MO talk page and I would like to know what you all think. Thank you! Taram (talk) 07:53, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

While I personally feel we're tiptoeing around a WP:Canvassing vio here possibly, I'll go ahead and toss in my 2-cents. If Salem has a "Notables" subsection (as do many town or county Wikis) that seems to be the more accepted place to include Congressman Smith as opp. to somewhere in the text of the town's history. Also one would wish to avoid "puffery" or other WP:Peacock type issues when doing so. Just a basic listing like "Jason T. Smith, Member of the United States Congress for the Missouri (whatev district #)." See articles like Kirksville, Missouri, Salisbury, Missouri, etc. for their "notables" subsect and you'll see what I mean. On a personal note, I have silently (til now) observed the edit warring going on over at the Salem wiki feel that both of the main editors in the conflict ought to step away for a "cooling off" period and shouldn't be trying to drag other editors into their fight. Just one man's thoughts. Sector001 (talk) 15:17, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you Section 001, (I am certainly not an expert at WP in fact I am skittish about posting anything after run-ins with Qworty in April.) I do have one question though, was Jason Smith the first person ever elected to a national office from Salem? I cannot find much info on that. Thank you! Taram (talk) 16:13, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
That I'm not sure of. I did some work to this Smith Wiki (which is why I monitor it and the talk page), but haven't done any research or editing on the Salem history. P.S. as to your now-deleted request I'd really rather you not quote me on the Salem talk page or any of your discussions with the other editor in your feud. Don't want to get dragged into anything I've no real interest in and that personally strikes me as having degenerated into a silly test of wills. Thanks. Sector001 (talk) 17:37, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
No worries. Thanks!
