Racism[edit]

Has anybody Considered this topic? It seems like he is getting a lot from Hollywood... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tsangdouglas (talkcontribs) 04:00, 20 October 2015 (UTC) I am finding some info on him being an Asian American and him being the first Asian romantic lead on the show Selfie. http://caamedia.org/blog/2014/09/22/john-cho-reflects-on-his-career/ http://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2014/09/28/352046466/selfie-s-choice-john-cho-gets-an-unlikely-shot-as-a-romantic-lead — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tsangdouglas (talkcontribs) 03:15, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My Contribution[edit]

I am planning to add a section on Cho and how he dealt with racism throughout the industry and in life. By being Korean in Hollywood, he has faced many challenges and have learned from them too. An outline of what I am planning to add is as follows:

Please give me some feedback! :) Tsangdouglas (talk) 20:42, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tsangdouglas! I’ve looked over your proposed edits listed above and it seems that you are off to a good start in that you have found a lot of information from a variety of different sources. You mentioned that you wanted to add information about John Cho’s experience with racism in the Hollywood industry and how he coped, which is good. However, I feel that it might be helpful for you to broaden your scope of research to add more information to supplement the Early Life and/or Personal Life Sections as well, which do not contain much information currently. This is just a suggestion in case you run into issues adding enough information to his page. I hope this helps a little bit and if you have any questions, feel free to comment! Your edits would be beneficial to the actor's article. Many of your proposed changes deal with the actor's feelings about racism in the film industry. Be sure not to make this addition opinion-based, as Wikipedia is strictly factual. The way you plan on addressing Cho's opinion on racism is a good strategy. Your sources look reliable.

Doug, I think that your edits will be beneficial to the overall page. I would like to hear more about the effect all of your proposed edits had on racism in Hollywood if this star's individual efforts contributed to any improvements in the system. I like the idea you for updating this article, but be cautious of bias. With such a controversial topic being written, there are many instances where sources you use could bloat his image and influence being an Asian actor in Hollywood. Before writing your section I would suggest making sure the information you are writing is free of any bias and shows just the facts about him. This will allow the article to be "honest" and straight forward to the topic you are covering. Nickmccune12 (talk) 22:06, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey doug! I like your outline, but I think you should try to avoid making the article too critical. I think it is great to talk about racism as part of Cho's experience in Hollywood, but try not to make this a criticism of Hollywood and try to focus on informational aspects such as his personal life and biggest successes in the business, maybe even his success to other Koreans. Maybe look into fixing that citation on his page that is invalid! Other than that you have credible sources and a good plan! Montse03 (talk) 07:09, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Montse03[reply]

Hey Tsangdouglas. Uber-fan and follower of AA media here. Love what you've done so far and I notice you're still working so, bit of advice~ When you are referencing Cho's opinions, I urge you to go back to the original source interview. For example, above you reference HuffPo by Namkung, and WaPo by Sullivan. Both of those are taking quotes from the original Toronto Star article. So unless you're talking about the media's perception of him, use instead the original sources (like the Star) when talking about Cho's opinions. So just follow the clicks back and make sure you're understanding Cho correctly and in context. Cheers. 75.17.116.157 (talk) 09:22, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you all for your feedback. I have added my contribution to his page that you can view. Tsangdouglas (talk) 04:38, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Too identity focussed[edit]

There seems a lot of focus on immutable characteristics on this page. For me it is too much by comparison with contemporary actors if similar stature. 2A02:C7F:2C28:5600:A4EE:D24:AD0C:3511 (talk) 21:13, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
