Most Deaths In Films[edit]

Came here after reading a site which list the top ten actor with the most death in movies. John Hurt ranked first with 44 deaths. I don't see it underlined here. Don't know if it's true or not but if it is I think it should be noted; can't confirm it myself so I don't really know either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.137.139.109 (talk) 08:35, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

TV Career[edit]

You should add in his title role in the tv series "The Storyteller".

Judgemental and unreferenced Who Do You Think You Are paragraph removed[edit]

I have removed the biased (to put it mildly) and unreferenced paragraph about Hurt's Who Do You Think You Are episode by anonymous user 67.171.206.153. The original paragraph was quite close to vandalism. I've added a sourced paragraph instead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Epsilonpilot (talkcontribs) 07:57, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Needs an image[edit]

The current image at the top was removed because it was a direct shot from V for Vandetta and as a non fair-use image cannot be used on any article except the one for the movie in question.

A fair-use image is nessecary though. FinalWish 02:22, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

appearance[edit]

I have often heard people comment that there's "something wrong with his face" and that he makes brilliant use of it to play wounded or sickly characters (Kane in Alien, Winston in 1984) Is this a myth or is there a real medical problem behind this? If the latter I think it deserves mention as an interesting part of his acting skill. CharlesTheBold (talk) 04:28, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Always seems to me that he just has a very expressive face that naturally lends itself in the directs you suggest. Or maybe it's just typecasting. Either way, I've not heard it being attributed to any type or mobidity. Nick Cooper (talk) 10:54, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Spoilers[edit]

"His character's demise in Alien is generally regarded as one of the most chilling and unforgettable deaths in cinematic history" in the introductory paragraph may well be true, but it's also a spoiler, is it not? I removed it once for that very reason, but it looks as if it's been restored.

Any thoughts on this? Is there some sort of guideline on posting spoilers that expressly allows for this?

It's an "old" movie, and a famous death scene, which might justify it, but that seems rather unconvincing.

Changed to "final scene", and added solid cites from reputable sources. 88.109.34.216 (talk) 15:52, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Sjff 03 img1147.jpg[edit]

The image Image:Sjff 03 img1147.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Hurt and Hurt[edit]

  • Are actors William Hurt and John Hurt related? Jeremy706 (talk) 20:56, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Anselm Hurt[edit]

About 20 years ago I met a gentleman called Anselm Hurt and I believe he said he was John's brother. He discussed John's early and sixth-form education fairly freely. The event was for graduates of Emmanuel College, Cambridge and Anselm was working for the Worker's Educational Association. I wonder whether the article is incomplete on John's siblings? Budhen (talk) 19:12, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Human Planet[edit]

Is this the John Hurt who has narrated Human Planet on BBC One in January 2011? This should be added to his list of television entries. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 19:57, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Birth place[edit]

Hurt's birthplace has been changed back and forth between Shirebrook and Chesterfield a number of times on the article page.

Investigation suggests that Hurt's actual birthplace was Chesterfield, although after birth he then lived with his family in Shirebrook.

Hurt appeared on an episode of BBC One's The One Show on 2-Feb-2011. The programme would be available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ybvzq, but regrettably although it is referred to there, it is not currently available for viewing.

On that programme, Hurt reportedly said that he was born at a nursing home, rather than at home. For example, see http://www.contactmusic.com/news/hurts-eldest-brother-died-at-birth_1198143.

Additionally, according to a contemporaneous discussion of the programme at The Chesterfield Forum, http://chesterfieldforum.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2753, Hurt also said during that programme that "he was born in a nursing home 'within the shadow' of the Spire", referred to in the same paragraph as "the Crooked Spire". The Crooked Spire is listed in wikipedia in the entry for Church of St Mary and All Saints, Chesterfield. The forum then has some discussion about what nursing home Hurt could be referring to, but there is no doubt from these posts that, on The One Show, Hurt expressed his belief that he was born in Chesterfield (and not in Shirebrook).

There is no doubt that Hurt then lived in his father's vicarage in Shirebrook, for example see http://www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/Hollywood-star-returning-roots-play-leading-role-Quad/story-11639347-detail/story.html#axzz2P2oCfAV1 and http://www.peakdistrictonline.co.uk/john-hurt-famous-derbyshire-people-c2518.html.

So technically the correct place of birth is Chesterfield, although I have found no primary sources to confirm this. If anyone can locate a primary source (such as video or a transcript of The One Show), that would be useful.

Doctor Who[edit]

Can we find some reliable sources please. Especially to cite claims of him being the 9th Doctor or whatever. Thank you :) -- MisterShiney 19:09, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Ok, found a Radio Times reference. -- MisterShiney 19:16, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
The notion that he's between 8th and 9th Doctor's hasn't been verified. Would make more sense that he's the Valeyard, from between the Doctor's 12th and 13th regenerations. 98.23.149.187 (talk) 03:48, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
