Persian/Iranian Jews [edit]

Is there an ethnic name for Persian/Iranian Jews?

yes theyre are ethnically Persians and theyre called Persians. BTW persian jews really speak the same persian as the other persians so this article is wrong in some way. ok great. 71.170.161.132 (talk) 05:00, 4 December 2008 (UTC)YOUR BOY VAN

Ethnonym for Persian Jews [edit]

Persian Jews are indeed Mizrachim. The notion of "included in" goes back to the tenuous notion of what Mizrahim are, of course. For further discussion, see Talk:Mizrahi Jew. There is no distinct collective ethnonym for these communities, since they long lived in relative isolation from one another, especially none analogous to the ethnonyms Ashkenazi or Sephardi. Move to "Judæo-Persian" [edit]

I think there is no need to follow Russian transliteration and use "dzh" instead of "j". Jahangard 04:10, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Was it really Russian? It's strange. --Koryakov Yuri 08:30, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
The content of this article (and the spelling) is mainly taken from the 1906 Jewish Encyclopedia. I don't know what was their source for that spelling. I think it was because of some Russian academic sources (I don't see another probable explanation for using "dzh" instead of "j").
On the second thought, "Judæo-Persian" is a much better title for Enlish Wikipedia. Jahangard 19:49, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Also Jewish Encyclopedia uses "Judæo-Persian" as the title of the corresponding artice. Jahangard 16:59, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Today [edit]

Does anyone today still speak any form of Judaeo-Persian? Or do most Iranian Jews now speak standard Persian? Whichever is true, we need to mention it in the article. --Sir Myles na Gopaleen (the da) 09:47, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Need to split the article [edit]

We need to split the article to Judæo-Persian texts and Judæo-Persian dialects. The introduction is mostly about the Judæo-Persian dialects, but the main part of this article is taken from Jewish Encyclopedia, 1906, and most of it is about Judæo-Persian texts, rather than contemporary Judæo-Persian dialects. It's better to move it to Judæo-Persian, and then split it. Alefbe (talk) 13:25, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Decline - the article is about the language both spoken and written, and the article is not too large. When the article grows so that any section becomes large enough then it can be split out per WP:Summary style. SilkTork *YES! 17:04, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Persian words in Hebrew and Aramaic [edit]

What is this section doing here? The article is supposed to be about the Jewish form of the Persian language, and Persian words in Hebrew and Aramaic would seem to be completely irrelevant. Languagehat (talk) 01:10, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
