Name of photographer[edit]

Reliable sources state that Jacobus Rentmeester is the name of the photographer who, in 1984, took the original "Jumpman" picture. This article was vandalized several times in March 2018 by IP user 194.103.31.10. On March 19, that user changed the name of Rentmeester to "Jonas Linder". It's been that way ever since. Mainstream sources like NBC, ABC, ESPN, Washington Post and multiple law review journals identify Rentmeester as the photographer. There are three sources, however, that show the "Linder" name, none of which are cited in this article. All of them have publication dates after the date the name in the Wikipedia article was changed to "Linder". Those sources are:

The "Solesupplier" and "Aiobot" websites are not news outlets, but are trade publications, specializing in publicizing athletic footwear products. The "Elonsi19" website is the blog of a college in North Carolina; the entry that includes "Linder" in a photo caption was written by a student. I think it is possible that those three sites got their "Linder" information from Wikipedia, after the IP user changed the name. Online searching has shown no other sources, such as newspapers or broadcast news outlets, that name "Linder" as the photographer. Accordingly, I have reverted the name back to Rentmeester, nearly six years after the vandal changed it. DonFB (talk) 03:23, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
