Additional sourcing[edit]

While I know a lot of the info in this article is "common knowledge" to anyone living in the Houston area during the 1980s/1990s, it still needs to be reliably sourced per WP:BLP -- something it is sorely lacking right now. --nsaum75^{¡שיחת!‎} 03:27, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

@Bruin2: Your recent edits have introduced a number of errors in the article trying to call template {{Efn-A}}, which doesn't exist. I think you might have meant to use {{Efn-ua}}, but I'm not sure. Can you fix those links? Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 15:53, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivanvector: I am in the process of uploading a general rewrite of the article, so the erroneous calls have been fixed. I noted the comment on your home page regarding rewrites, but after attempting to simply edit this article, I decided that a complete overhaul was more desirable. In my opinion, the original did not convey the historical significance of the subject. (I have simply hidden the original text for comparison - I will delete it in the future. Meanwhile interested readers may view it by putting the page in Edit mode). Bruin2 (talk) 17:07, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's all perfectly fine, of course. It just looked to me as though you were finished with your rewrite but had miskeyed the name of the template, so I just meant to call your attention to it. To be eligible for the 2x BLP exception, an article must have no sources of any kind prior to expansion. This had inline references and an external link, so it is not eligible for that exception. A regular 5x expansion is required. Seven days before nomination, it was 2,856 prose characters, so a 5x times expansion would require 14,280. If whoever reviews this wants to be generous, allowing a late nomination (a day and a half) and taking the pre-expansion version to be just before the nominator started working on it, it was 2,201 characters, so 5x would be 11,005. - Hi Mandararx, Thanks for your speedy reply. Before I started the main expansion, I had run the character count tool, which showed 2, 217 characters. I checked again on the morning of December 16, and got a count of 10, 469 characters, indicating a 4.72 expansion. But at 7:15 PM PDT, I rechecked after another update and counted 11,620 characters, an expansion ratio of 5.24. Ordinarily, I wouldn't quibble over such relatively small deviations, but since this issue could invalidate the whole DYK effort, I believe it is premature to declare the DYK void on this item alone. Moreover, I'm sure I could find enough material to bring the character count over the 5.0 expansion in the next day or so, if necessary. Does that sound satisfactory? 1981 Election[edit]

The article said that McConn lost to Heard and Whitmire in the primary. This is incorrect, due both to an errant source (ourcampaigns.com) and a previous Wikipedian's misunderstanding of the source. Houston mayoral elections are nonpartisan, therefore there is no primary election for them. Heard and Whitmire each got more votes than McConn in the general election on November 3, 1981, but neither got a majority, so it went to a runoff between Whitmire and Heard. I have corrected this in the article. The Christian Science Monitor article on the election which had already been cited by this paragraph of the Wikipedia article already had the correct information, so it was unnecessary for me to provide a new source. 73.166.250.111 (talk) 16:27, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Did Anthony Hall and Judson Robinson support the Straight Slate? I think not. I remember Judson Robinson had a Straight Slate opponent. Robinson sent me a satirical mailing about how his opponent wanted to prevent gays from playing softball with young people - a solution to all the city's problems. A source, please.
