Grainger vs Historic Grainger Stadium[edit]

In regards to the edit of "Historic" Grainger Stadium: the Kinston Indians themselves have started using the term "Historic" whenever referring to their stadium and use it as if it were part of the name. See: http://www.kinstonindians.com/grainger/default.asp . Please note that they also capitalize the term. Kinston eagle 12:58, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should somebody move Grainger Stadium to Historic Grainger Stadium? Nick81aku 22:32, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment, it is not the "official" name but a nickname adopted by the powers that be such as "KTribe" for "Kinston Indians". Unless the name is formally changed, I think things should stay the way they are.Kinston eagle 10:10, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

Why hasn't this article been deleted? It was successfully nominated for deletion and deletion was subsequently endorsed by deletion review. Bwithh 21:07, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion concerned pages for individual players. It was determined that players that were only at the High A level of ball were not notable enough to warrant their own pages, but the team pages were not up for deletion.24.106.223.2 19:55, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2007 roster - James Deters[edit]

I notice that James Deters (Buffalo Bisons) is listed under the heading "Current K-Tribers who have played for another team in 2007." I keep track of players that fall under this category (along with the category "Played for 2007 K-Tribe but no longer with team" - {for Akron, Buffalo, and Cleveland as well}) and James Deters is the only player that I believe does not fall under this category. I think the milb.com player page for Deters made a mistake by saying that he played for Buffalo for one game [1]. I have checked every Bisons box score this season and Deters never appears. Furthermore, Bisons transactions show that Deters was called up on May 5 and sent down the same day [2]. Box scores from May 4 [3], 5 [4], and 6 [5] all reflect that Deters never played with the Bisons. As a result, I plan to remove Deters from the heading "K-Tribers who have played for another team in 2007." If this seems like a mistake, please provide a Bisons boxscore that shows Deters has played with them. Nick22aku 15:09, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was another call up. One game: [6] April 23 against Pawtucket.Kinston eagle 18:24, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, thanks! Sorry about all that. Nick22aku 22:09, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Candidate passed[edit]

Good job. Honestly, this may be one of the best written, best referenced sports team articles I have read in a long time. This is quite close to Feature quality, consider taking it to Peer Review for more specific comments towards getting it to Feature quality, but IMHO this is almost featureable as-is. Good job! --Jayron32|talk|contribs 02:42, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:K Tribe.PNG[edit]

Image:K Tribe.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Checking against GA criteria[edit]

This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, listed below. I will check back in seven days. If these issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far.

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
Lead needs expanding to fully summarise the article as per WP:LEAD.
Baseball has been popular in Kinston since the late nineteenth century, and it fielded many excellent amateur clubs. Rewrite to corect grammar.
The other racial pioneer for Kinston baseball was Frank Washington, a holdover from the 1955 Burlington team. Kinston's owner was an inept businessman who brought the club near bankruptcy before it was moved to Wilson in 1957. Rather abrupt change in subject between the two sentences.
Recommend a thorough copy-edit to improve style, which is uneven and flows badly.
Phrases such as The senior Smeraldo has entered his fifteenth season of tending to the home clubhouse while his son takes care of the needs of the visiting team in their clubhouse., obviously written at some time in the post. Is he now in 16th or 17th season. Better to rewrite in an undated manner, such as ""The senior Smeraldo started tending to the clubhouse in 19??. There are a number of other dated sentences such asThe Kinston Indians are currently managed.
The Indians' mascot is a dog named Scout. Scout can usually be found in an Indians jersey and baseball cap, but has also been known to don a Superman t-shirt or an aloha shirt depending on the antics he is performing. Scout replaced an earlier Native American mascot who was named Tom E. Hawk.[42] Although Tom E. Hawk no longer greets fans in person at the ballpark, he can still be seen in several of the official logos on much of the team merchandise. His broadly smiling visage is very reminiscent of Cleveland's Chief Wahoo. Completely un-encyclopaedic, full of POV phrasing.
Look out for typos like Among the members of these 1920's Eagles teams 1920s doesn't have a possessive apostrophe.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Assume good faith for all offline sources.
I fixed two dead links using WP:CHECKLINKS
Online sources appear to be RS
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
OK, the lead needs expansing and the rpose needs a good overall to make it erasonably good, expanding and the prose needs a thorough overhaul to make it reasonably good. At present it is uneven and not very well written. On hold for seven days for improvements to be made, major contributors and projects will be notified
Apart from a comment about my dyslexic wfriting style there have been no attempts to improve the artcile so I am de-listing it. When these issues have been addressed, it can be re-nominated at WP:GAN. Jezhotwells (talk) 11:15, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"OK, the lead needs expansing and the pose needs a good overall to make it erasonably good." For posting this sentence while standing in judgment of the writing abilities of others, I award you the Golden Irony barnstar. Congrats! 98.121.178.250 (talk) 00:08, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing out my dyslexia. Are you interested in fixing up the article? Jezhotwells (talk) 09:01, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I addressed all the issues except one:
I fail to see how any of the quoted section is POV. It's just stating the facts. Kinston eagle (talk) 01:34, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kinston cease operations, not relocating[edit]

Suggest this article should say that kinston ceased operations and were replaced by the carolina mudcats of the southern league, not kinston relocates to become the mudcats.C.J. Ratt (talk) 16:43, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The franchise was not "replaced by the carolina mudcats of the southern league". The Southern League franchise was relocated to Florida and the Carolina League franchise was purchased and relocated to Zebulon." Kinston eagle (talk) 14:49, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kinston Eagles[edit]

The K-Tribe were established in 1978 under the "Kinston Eagles" name, not in 1987. Silvercoindinerman (talk) 22:38, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
