[edit] PLEASE CHANGE THE PICTURE

Could we PLEASE get a more unflattering picture? I'd really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure in what sense you're requesting a new one, but removing it just because you don't like it enough or whatever reasoning is considered vandalism, so please leave it in place. Considering it was also taken by a family member (thanks Tom & family!) and released in to the public domain you could well be hard pushed to find what you consider a "better" photo without breaking free-use copyright laws. AllynJ 02:12, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Err... what's wrong with the picture? My personal opinion is that it's a pretty good picture. Matthew 08:47, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Indeed; I'm not sure what's going on there either. AllynJ 08:55, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually it is pretty easy to find a picture that it better without breaking any of your precious phony baloney copyright laws. A one minute scan of the pics of Flickr turned up nearly a dozen pics better than that one uploaded here that the authors have given free use to. I don't know if the fact that a family member has uploaded a picture should necessarily be given any special consideration. Indeed, since family members often have prejudiced or distorted views of their kin compared to the way the general public might view them, I'd submit they should be given even less consideration. The picture on the page right now has a definite "pic only a mom or dad could love" feel to it. I think it may properly reflect the way her older relatives think of her, but it hardly represents the image of the glamorous and talented actress which the majority of the public thinks of when they hear her name. I think a picture from one of the recent Cons, in which her hair is styled in the manner in which she's been wearing it of late, and she's much more dolled up and professional looking, would be a lot more appropriate for an encyclopedia entry.Bogan444 17:22, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Would you care to provide some links? Last time I browsed Flickr I found zilch. Matthew 17:24, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
I just searched and same here. There is this [1] but it has a non-commercial use only license so is not sufficiently free. Also it's hardly better then the existing photo. There is this [2] but it claims all rights reserved and clearly doesn't belong to the person who uploaded it, the uploader even say something stupid like 'I found this on the internet so it must be public domain' (demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of copyright law amongst other things). A few others with similar dubious situations. The current photo seems fairly decent IMHO. It is fairly rare we have better photos given that most of our photographers are amateurs and have to take photos in whatever situation presents itself. We don't usually have studio quality photos for obvious reasons Nil Einne 00:56, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I actually agree with the person who started this discussion. The picture is very bad. Could we use one of the other ones? (Wikirocks2 14:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC))
For the record, I always thought the picture was fine, albeit that it was taken a few years ago and there should be a newer and better alternative. Looking on Wikimedia Commons, I found a newer one that I think works fine. I went ahead and changed the picture on the page. If you find a better one or still think the previous one works, feel free to revert my edit. Rvb_strongbad 06:03, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
The new picture is not the best picture of Kirsten Bell, but it is definitally better than the old one. I think it's good. Thanks! :) (Wikirocks2 (talk) 06:03, 3 December 2007 (UTC))

[edit] GA review

I'm pleased to say that this article is in great shape and fulfills the GA criteria. It is well written, factually accurate and verifiable, comprehensive, neutral, stable, and well illustrated with free images. I could probably see this article going the FAC route someday if it continues to grow and improve. There are several suggestions I have in regards to the prose, however. Let me know when these things have been addressed and I will gladly pass the article. :)

  • The first sentence seems overly long; perhaps remove "appearing in several musicals early in her career" since that is mentioned in the next paragraph.
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Bell had acted in other stage and musical productions previous to that: remove "other" since the first part of the sentence refers to films, not stage productions. Rather than "previous to that" use "previously acted in stage...".
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 1990 (UTC)
  • Bell also acted as Mary Lane in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, the film version of a stage production she had also starred in, and portrayed the lead role in Pulse, a remake of a J-Horror film: "portrayed" seems redundant since "acted as" is already used.
YesY Done Reworded as it was a bit confusing: During her time on Veronica Mars, Bell also reprised her role as Mary Lane in the film version of Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, a stage production she had took part in. She also portrayed the lead role in Pulse, a remake of a J-Horror film. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • The quote in the lead is not noted in the body of the article, and since it is not a notable quote in and of itself, I would suggest removing it (keeping the mention and ref about her young looks) and perhaps adding something pertaining to her charity work, which is described in full in the "Personal life" section.
YesY Done Fixed. It has been removed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Born and raised in Huntington Woods, Michigan, a suburb about three miles north of Detroit, Bell is the daughter of Tom Bell, a television news director, and Lorelei Bell, a registered nurse: I'd split this into two sentences; 1) where she is from and 2) her parents and what they do.
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • When she was two years old, her parents divorced,[3] and her father remarried, giving Bell two step sisters,[5] Sara and Jody. That's a lot of commas. :) How about: "Her parents divorced when she was two years old and she has two stepsisters, Sara and Jody, from her father's second marriage."
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • where she took part in drama and music club: is this supposed to read the drama and music club?
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • In 1998, the year of her graduation: awkward -- "the year she graduated"?
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • In 2004, Bell performed in the stage production of Reefer Madness in Los Angeles, having moved there in 2002 because of her friendship with writers Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney: perhaps reword it so that her moving to Los Angeles is mentioned first in a separate sentence; the reverse chronology is somewhat confusing.
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Shortly after, she won the role of the title character in UPN's drama Veronica Mars, which was launched in the fall of 2004: "shortly after" is unnecessary since the timeline has already been established in the previous paragraph; the sentence can stand on its own.
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • The series earned positive reviews from television critics, as did Bell's performance, which some critics views as overlooked, however, deserving of an Emmy Award nomination. Perhaps try: "The series earned positive reviews from television critics, as did Bell's performance. Some critics felt that she was overlooked, however, and deserved an Emmy Award nomination."
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • In 2005, Bell starred in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, reprising the role she played in the off-Broadway musical, a spoof of the 1936 exploitation film of the same name, which was in turn was based on an anti-marijuana propaganda film entitled Tell Your Children. Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical debuted on the Showtime network on April 16, 2005: long and confusing. I'd split this into two or even three sentences.
YesY Done Reworded: In 2005, Bell starred in Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, reprising the role she played in the off-Broadway musical. The musical was based on a spoof of the 1936 exploitation film of the same name; the 1936 film itself was in turn was based on Tell Your Children, an anti-marijuana propaganda film. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • A Tribeca Film Festival entry which premiered in April, Fifty Pills saw Bell star as Gracie: This is awkward. How about, "Aside from working on Veronica Mars, in April Bell starred as Gracie in Fifty Pills, an entry for the Tribeca Film Festival."
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • and the horror film Roman, which re-united her with The Crucible co-star Angela Bettis who directed Roman: change to "and the horror film Roman, which was directed by her The Crucible co-star Angela Bettis."
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • however critics commented on the missing social commentary in the American version, resulting in a film with a series of scares created for the purpose of shock value.: is this necessary in the article? I could see it on the film's article, but as this has nothing to do with Bell or her performance, it doesn't need to be here.
YesY Done I removed that completely and added a quote that was more related to how the film's quality (as mentioned in the removed quote) affected Bell's performance. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • On May 17, 2007 Ostroff announced the cancellation of the series, however, there were talks of another collaboration between Bell and series creator Thomas: the before and after "however" seem like two separate thoughts; split into two sentences and move the "collaboration" talks to before the part about the film and comic book.
YesY Done Reworded: On May 17, 2007 Ostroff announced the cancellation of the series. A Veronica Mars feature film and comic book series continuation had been discussed, and for a short time there was talk of a collaboration between Bell and creator Thomas that would be unrelated to the Veronica Mars series. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • She was also spoken to about a role on Lost, however, was not offered one: watch your "however"s -- "but" works better in this circumstance.
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Announced in August 2007, Bell was to portray Elle Bishop, a "mysterious young lady" with an "awesome power". She did not have to audition for the role of Elle, who will appear on a total of thirteen episodes: isn't this somewhat outdated since she has already began to appear on the show?
YesY Done Reworded: She did not have to audition for the role of Elle, who made her first appearance in an October 2007 episode, and will appear in at least thirteen episodes during the run of the series. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Bell was the subject of two questions on the game show Jeopardy!: this seems very random as it has nothing to do with the rest of the paragraph. Move it elsewhere or expand?
YesY Done Removed. haha, it was a bit random. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • At age eleven, Bell became a vegetarian and in an interview with PETA, Bell stated, "I have always been an animal lover...: split into two sentences.
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Bell often attends fund raisers for the ASPCA and other non-profit organization dedicated to protecting animals: organizations?
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
  • She owns a Welsh Corgi-Chow Chow mix, Lola, a Welsh Corgi-Chihuahua mix, Shakey, and a black Labrador Retriever rescued from Hurricane Katrina who Bell adopted in 2005, the then eleven year old Sadie: the names separated by commas is somewhat confusing. Perhaps: "A Welsh Corgi etc. named Lola and a black lab named Sadie, who was rescued from Hurricane Katrina when she was eleven years old and adopted by Bell in 2005."
YesY Done Fixed. -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

All finished. I did some other minor changes as well, so I hope everything turned out well. Thanks for reviewing, I really appreciate it! -Lindsey8417 (talk) 09:25, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Great work on an interesting article! Good luck on further improvements. :) María (habla conmigo) 13:08, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

There is a picture here if you need it. Corn.u.co.pia Discussion 13:23, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Role on Lost

I read in the article : She was also spoken to about a role on Lost, but was not offered one. In fact, it seems that she has been offered a role in Lost, and turned down the offer, as can be seen here and there. Arikel (talk) 01:31, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

She specifically states here: "I had been spoken to about possibly doing a role on Lost, but I was not offered one." -Lindsey8417 (talk) 03:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tell Your Children

The film Reefer Madness (1936) and Tell Your Children are one and the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Metalrobot (talkcontribs) 16:59, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wonky eye

On the April 18th episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, she stated that she had a lazy eye that would occasionally become obvious when she was staying up late.[3] The fact that she names it is hysterical "wonky" and "night owl" and is willing to share it with the world should be noted somehow in the article. --Hourick (talk) 18:59, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kristen doesn't have six half sisters

Kristen has two half sisters... Jody and Sara. From her father Tom's re-marriage when she was 4 years old. The three of them grew up together. This info is from me, her Dad, but there is plenty of documentation around. Try http://www.tv.com/Kristen-Bell/person/180276/summary.html Thanks Tomsnet (talk) 00:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)tomsnet

Welcome to Wikipedia Tom. The TV.com source is no good, as anyone can edit it, but the references in the article are not much better. Can you clarify exactly how many children you and your former wife have had, and with whom? If this is too much trouble, a reliable source would be even better. Thanks, Skomorokh 00:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I hesitate to list too much personal info here, given the open nature. But please check reference #5, the footnote to the sister info. Odd. Additionally, both Sara and Jody's names are spelled incorrectly. This Wiki article was correct about her two sisters for quite some time...not sure why it was changed... Thanks for looking into it. Regards, Tomsnet (talk) 00:54, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

i disagree, wikipedia can't be considered a good source either! wikipedia lets anyone edit, at least, tv.com needs you to be registered and the submissions at tv.com are moderated by tv.com, here at wikipedia, no one reviews them. please think twice next time before saying something. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.96.233.188 (talk) 06:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] good article?

BIG RED ERROR

<cough>broken citations</cough> — pd_THOR | =/\= | 00:20, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Instead of looking like a complete jerk, you could of fixed it yourself. Nabudis Shadow (talk) 04:53, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Instead of assuming bad faith and being incivil, you could have restraining from resorting to personal attacks too.

That being the case, I couldn't find the problem and wasn't sure if I was the only one seeing it. It appears you actually removed two citations; were those valid citations at one point in the article's history? It would probably be better to fix and replace those as opposed to just removing them. I have limited access currently though, and can't look into it myself just now. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 14:40, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Veronica Mars Movie

In the Filmography there is a date: 2012. From where is this information? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.14.128.166 (talk) 18:02, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Relatives

[4] I could not find the information about step siblings in any WP:reliable source. Just wiki mirrors. Gimmetoo (talk) 17:26, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

I have removed this material per WP:BLP. Gimmetoo (talk) 17:28, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] her fiance "got her a sloth"

I think this wording should be changed because it implies that Bell has a pet sloth, which could be seen as cruel, as sloths are not domestic animals. In actuality her fiance arranged for a sloth with a handler to come to their house for a few hours. --129.11.249.164 (talk) 16:04, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
