Copyright violation[edit]

I've removed a huge swath of text that violated copyright. More specifically, the text was taken from various pages on http://www.kylemoreabbeytourism.ie/. Do not re-add this text as it was. — HelloAnnyong ^{(say whaaat?!)} 18:25, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've no skin in this game, but this looks like a heritage site, and a visitor attraction which is struggling to survive and needs publicity. I'm puzzled – while I can see that much of the stuff taken out was poorly written and unencyclopaedic, and I can also see that WP needs to be pretty vigilant about copyright issues....what exactly is the rationale for removing material where, even if it might technically be in breach of copyright, the author does not object to it being in WP? As you say, WP needs to be careful about copyright, and we can't claim to represent the copyright holder's interests. If the Abbey want their text to be freely used, it's really for them to expressly put it in the public domain, or at least Creative Commons. Ministry (talk) 23:54, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Added the following morning: I missed the obvious solution - sorry. I don't see any problem with using the information itself; with writing fresh text and citing kylemoreabbeytourism.ie as a source (ideally not the sole source). England?[edit]

Pretty sure it is England, with them moving to Ireland in 1920. I have visited the Abbey, and I think I read it in their exhibition, but I'm afraid I don't have anything citeable! Ministry (talk) 23:54, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Which Benedictine 'family'?[edit]

Most Benedictine communities are part of a wider stream within Benedictinism. It would be useful to add this detail. It doesn't appear to be visible on the website. My suspicion is that they may be English Benedictine Congregation (EBC) - which might explain their unwillingness to mention the fact.
