  • Hi, I will review this article. FunkMonk (talk) 10:47, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just in case, here's the 1939 paper that first doubted the validity, could be nice to cite: http://extinct-website.com/pdf/p0479-p0480.pdf (Dysmorodrepanis Munroi Probably not a Valid form Auk Volume 56, Number 4, October, 1939. Greenway, J. C., Jr.)
Done. Thank you for finding it. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Even though it was since confirmed valid, the early objections could be elaborated a bit more, for example the fact that only one specimen was collected, and that it was also considered a hybrid (Hume 2012).
Done per Greenway. I'm not seeing anything on it being a hybrid in Greenway or Snetsigner though. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK. FunkMonk (talk) 18:37, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The Lānaʻi Hookbill is only known to have eaten the fruit of the ōpuhe.[5] It is considered likely that the hookbill additionally ate ʻakoko fruits due to their similarity in size and shape to those of the ōpuhe." The type specimen was apparently collected while feeding on akoko fruit (Hume 2012, after Perkins 1919), so this sentence seems misleading.
Perkins says that it was feeding on ōpuhe (Urera glabra) (top of p. 252). Not sure where Hume got ʻakoko from. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Huh, weird. I've found a few other errors in the 2012 book, so this seems to be one more. FunkMonk (talk) 18:37, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The type specimen contained berries in its stomach, were these identified?
They were ōpuhe. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Could this be mentioned? It is somewhat interesting. FunkMonk (talk) 18:37, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Took me three tries, but I think integrated. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:56, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The species was undescribed by the native Hawaiians." The use of "described" seems odd, as this would refer to scientific description. Unknown by instead? Not recorded by?
Done. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The use of the words "dramatically", "extremely", and "claims were not put to rest" seem a bit unencyclopaedic and loaded.
Done. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The diagram illustration seems a bit too simplified and leaves out some pattern details, perhaps the author could be contacted about this?
I'll ask Shyamal to include more white in the throat and the arc towards the eye as well as turn the wing feathers black with yellow edges. Shyamal is fairly busy right now, so not sure how long it will take. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok, as long as it is done at some point, won't prevent this from becoming GA. He used this[1] image as reference, so I'm surprised the white stripe and other things are missing. There's a nice large image here:[2] Here are two other images he could look at: [3][4] FunkMonk (talk) 18:37, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've commented below your comments. Thank you for the review, and thanks for getting another picture for the article! Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:27, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's a nice article, and I'm happy someone else is starting to seriously work on extinct bird articles, they really need some love. I'll pass this next time you respond. FunkMonk (talk) 18:39, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Extinct oddities and critically endangered birds have always interested me. I've also done Negros Fruit Dove (which, once I finish copyediting, should be at GAN) and Sulu Bleeding-heart recently, both of which may be extinct. I'm also getting back to Passenger Pigeon after the Negros Fruit Dove copyedit BTW. Thank you. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 18:56, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's a pass then! And I took the liberty to elaborate a bit on the berry issue. FunkMonk (talk) 19:00, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again! Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 19:21, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
