Classification as "walled village"[edit]

Some sources call Lai Chi Wo a "walled village", but it does not seem to have the characteristics (past or present) to qualify as such like others in Hong Kong. If it is actually one, please indicate the source and explain why it is or was a walled village. Thank you. olivier (talk) 10:02, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are feng shui walls, but not really protective walls, which would make (or have made) the village be a little fortress, as the term "walled village would imply. You can have a look at this article for background [1]. olivier (talk) 10:15, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The 2 sources given in the article for supporting the "walled village" classification are: 1) a webpage dedicated to Camping Sites and 2) a report assembled by students of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management. More scholarly sources and some reasons for the classification should be given. Documents from the Antiquities and Monuments Office, for instance, do not refer to the village as a "walled village". olivier (talk) 10:37, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The 3rd source, here, which is on the website of the Hong Kong Tourism Board says: "First stop is Lai Chi Wo, an island featuring a Hakka walled village". So they call Lai Chi Wo an "island" (!!!). Well, no big deal I guess, but it disqualifies the page completely as a reliable source. To date, I still haven't seen it called a "walled village" in any reliable source, although yes, it is a village with feng shui walls. olivier (talk) 08:46, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
