"There is no specific language used in these islands. For communication each island has there own dialect." (contribution from User:Noorul). I guess as far as Indians are concerned, folks out there just say mumble mumble mumble...

The natives of Lakshadweep speak a special local dilect of the Malayalam language. thunderboltz 11:55, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

They are residents of these islands are Indians themselves. IndiBoy 05:45, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Every time I read that "mumble mumble mumble..." I burst out laughing... :-p Tomer TALK July 3, 2005 21:52 (UTC)
NO Lakshadweep is a Union territory. It cannot be renamed. Merge the archipelego here instead. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:02, July 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Name in Malayalam

Why is the name not written in Malayalam as well as in English and Tamil (which it doesn't need to be) since the islands' official language is Malayalam. I don't know why the name is in Tamil.

The people of Lakshadweep speak jasari language which does not have a script of its own but is normally written using malayalam scripts. (the language is not similar to malayalam - a native of Kerala will find difficult to understand the island language).

[edit] Kiltan island

Kiltan island was missing in the list inhabited islands. I have added it earlier. But someone removed that island from the list. What might be the reason to remove that island from the list. Noorul 14:20, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
