The result of the move request was: Move. We have a clear consensus to move the province, and a rough consensus that the island is the primary topic and should be moved to Leyte. Cúchullain t/c 20:54, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– The island is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term "Leyte". The province is normally referred to as Leyte Province or even Northern Leyte province and just covers half of the island of Leyte.--RioHondo (talk) 07:51, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. The island is the primary topic. ''Sitta kah'' (talk) 10:54, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Looking at the news articles related to Typhoon Haiyan, the term "Leyte" by itself generally refers to the island, not the province. --seav (talk) 11:17, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alternative: "Leyte" as disambiguation page. In my experience, and thanks to the WWII battles, the island and the gulf are the primary topics (plural) for "Leyte". I think that in this case our readers would be better served by having "Leyte" as the disambiguation page, and all specific content just one click away. — Such an arrangement would have the added advantage of facilitating the work of editors and general maintenance (checking Special:WhatLinksHere/Leyte would suffice to know which wikilinks need correction), thus further aiding in ensuring that our readership gets a better content across Wikipedia, and not just in this specific article. --Ev (talk) 23:51, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Re I have added the Leyte (disambiguation) page in the article. The two provinces, the gulf and the municipality pertain to locations in or near the island, the clear primary topic, where the battles also took place. The navy ships are not as notable. --RioHondo (talk) 04:56, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Semi support move the province, and instead move the disambiguation page to "Leyte" -- 76.65.128.112 (talk) 05:01, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. No dab page please — that will cause more problems than it solves. As a reader, knowing just that Leyte is some kind of part of Philippines, I want sufficient information about it, and not a dab page to force me to choose. No such user (talk) 16:22, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom; no disambiguation needed, as the main topics are related. bd2412 T 21:03, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Given that the leading Leytes, the province and island are covered on separate pages, Leyte should be the disambiguation page, or should it be re-scoped as a broad-concept article. All Leyte topics are highly related, and some, such as the ships, are likely to be searched for using simply "leyte". --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:40, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
