Untitled[edit]

Does "writers" (the last heading) mean "fiction writers"? If so, I'd suggest changing it. I got "chroniclers" from the Portuguese-English look-up at http://www.yourdictionary.com/. —JerryFriedman 19:04, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I tried to fill in the red names as best I could, but it's a bit bigger bone to chew than I think I can handle. I think I did fairly alright with the poets though. Anyway Brazil is not actually my interest, but I've noticed that major things concerning that nation are almost ignored outright so I decided to try to alleviate that as much as I could.--T. Notability?[edit]

I would like to appoint that "Diogo Mainardi (1962-)" has not earned a place in this list. NewUser fev/03/2008 18:55h (Brazil).

Alphabetization[edit]

This would be extremely problematic. Some authors are not known by their surnames (who even knows that Ziraldo's full name is Ziraldo Alves Pinto?). Perhaps the best would be to put the important name of the writer in bold, and sort by that:

Ana Cristina César

Clarice Lispector

Carlos Drummond de Andrade

José Bento Monteiro Lobato

Nélson Rodrigues

Reverts[edit]

I understand your concern, but I checked. I know most of the Brazilian authors by name and checked when in doubt. Some of the authors were familiar because I AfDed them. Novelists[edit]

The section for "novelists" is overwhelmed with writers that do not classify as such - poets, historians, chroniclers, non-fiction writers, etc. It really deserves a general cleansing. Ninguém (talk) 18:44, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have placed all those writers under a new cathegory - "Other writers" until I can reclassify them. So the "novelists" cathegory should now only list actual novelists. Ninguém (talk) 18:44, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who's a Brazilian writer?[edit]

The following people are not Brazilian, and should be moved to the list of Portuguese writers (except Jean de Léry, who was French).

   * Antônio Ferreira (1528-1569) - Portuguese poet
   * Antônio Nobre - Portuguese poet
   * Bento Teixeira (1565- ?) - Portuguese writer
   * Camilo Pessanha (1867-1926) - Portuguese poet
   * Jean de Léry - French writer

And the following do not seem to classify as writers:

   * Cândido José de Araújo Viana (1793-1875)
   * Joaquim do Amor Divino Rabelo, best known as Frei Caneca (1779-1825) - revolutionary, does not seem to have been a writer
   * Assis Chateaubriand (1891-1968) - Press boss
   * Roberto Marinho (1904–2003) - Press boss
   * Vladimir Herzog (1930-1975) - Political activist, victim of torture
   * Dom Pedro II (1825-1891) - Statesman
   * Florêncio Carlos de Abreu e Silva - Politician
